I would guess that a new system will probably be out in 3-4 years. But, i'm sure they will continue to make games for the PS3 way beyond that. This is merely a guess, so don't take my word for it.

I think that Sony will announce a new console the moment that the Ps2 dies. I think they will want to keep two consoles fresh on the market to increase sales, where microsoft only have the 360 for sales and Nintendo only have the Wii.

Hopefully long. I just bought a slim a couple weeks ago. The good thing about the PS3 is that it does more than just play games so even if the next PS comes out, the ps3 still has lot of uses. I would say a little bit after the next xbox system to come out. Hopefully 3-4 years.

PS2 is pretty much dead already. Not even sure if they are making new games for it anymore. Sony don't need 2 systems around. PS3 should sell pretty well no matter what.

I'd say AT LEAST 3-5 years if not longer. With everything that was just introduced at E3 between 3D games and the Move, I think it should be here for a while until the next upgrade comes out.

Even if they were to make the next gen PS4 in like 4 years, it will take some time for me to want the PS4. First, it will be very expensive and probably around $500-600. Second, it will be buggy like pretty much all systems in their opening year and may have early failures. I prefer to wait for Sony to get all the kinks out before i get it. Lastly, it takes time for any system to build a nice collection of games. Just look at the PS3 when it first came out as there were just a couple good games out. I didn't even consider the PS3 until I started to see a lot of good games. I am not the person who will be waiting for the PS4 outside of best buy with $600 at the PS4 launch. Give PS4 time before I even think about it.

This gen will last a while yet, probably at least 3-5 years before another console is announced. Sony still has to recuperate all of their losses on the PS3 and they can't do that while developing a new console that most consumers (with no money) will not buy. The PS3 will be 3D ready so it's hard to see what else they can pull out of the hat.

Even if they were to introduce a new system within 3 - 4 years buying 1st gen consoles isn't the best idea which will give you atleast a year or two extra with your ps3.

Yes, sony reported 2mill+ PS2's sold in last quarter(or year not sure), obviously sales are falling and i think Sony aint too bothered. They still make games and even on here there are some previews and unreleased ones on the site.

I think 3 years tops but one interesting note is that developers dont want new consoles yet because of the high cost of games. With the economy the way it is and the huge cost that comes along with developing AAA titles, i dont think it would be a great idea to push for new consoles yet. Sony is going to push hard i think though, they are going to want to release their console before Microsoft but i personally wouldnt mind if current gen sticks around past 5 years.

same. I don't think it'll be Sony who launches in 2012. I could see 2013 or even 2014 for PS4.

I think the ps3 is so technically advanced that it'll be competing even with the next gen xbox (which I think is going to be available in 2 years). I don't think there's going to be a PS4 till atleast 2017. They'll surely continue making improvements to the PS move and the PSP though

I think, and thats just my 2 cents, that the death of this gen will not be brought about by the PS4 but by OnLive... I'd say when OnLive eventually get their sh*t together (in four years, maybe) it'll be the death of playstation.

PS2 sold 1.9 million units for Sony's 2009 fiscal year (ends in Sept.). That's pretty good for a ten year old system. Games are still being made for it... EA is still releasing it's annual sports titles on the PS2. As for the next console to be released... I don't think we'll hear about one for quite some time. With Move coming in Sept., Sony may be looking at the PS3 as a brand new console again... and treating it as such. I give it a good 4-5 years after Move is released before a PS4 is mentioned seriously.
