they were thinking,we got the game market by the b**** so if we put blu-ray we will lose some fans but lets just think about it,we make are blu-ray famous and lose some fans wat the heck we got 115 million ps2's out there and still selling,so lets just say we lose 30 million fans,we still have the gaming market and by then blu-ray would replace DVD's.

so after all that who thinks im right?

Blu-Ray is going to affect the whole entertainment industry and the majority of people in the future, not just people who buy a PS3 or like Sony.  Based on this, nothing you said makes much sense as an argument or discussion.

If you meant to say Sony is thinking ahead, then I agree.

Nah. I don't think they'll lose any fans for trying something new. It's not their fault the rest of the "next-gen" systems stuck with old technology.

I dont think they ever intended to loose anything. I just think Blu-Ray is a logical next step in the evoloution of video games and I think Sony was smart to recognize this early. Maybe they introduced it a tad bit too early to the market, who knows. Only time will tell that for sure. As far as the technology is concerened I think it gives them a competitive edge. Im sure they knew what they might be faced with, but the same goes for the introduction of any new hardware or technology I think. The fact is that not many people are knowledgeable in the area of HD entertainment and Blu-Ray is foreign to them. Once they see though I think the technology will sell it self. HD is now just starting to become mainstreme and with that I think the PS3 will do so more and more as well. I dont think its actually a matter of loosing fans because of the technology I think any Playstation fan would like to own a PS3. I think the price tag is more the issue. I know plenty of people who went the 360 route because of price, but want a PS3 and they just cant afford it. Though they plan on getting it. I recently bought one. I would have had it at launch were it not for the price. To the average person who doesnt know about blu-ray or Hd they just see it as a overpriced video game system and cant understand why it costs more than a 360. Like I said though with more and more people being introduced and understanding HD and stuffpeople will understand the cost as well I think. So like I said I dont think its the technology of blu-ray persay, but the cost and people being un-educated in the matter. Im sure this decision will prove benneficial to Sony in the end.

blu ray is good but dvd will not go anywhere for a long time trust me...blu ray may win over hd dvd but dvds will still be here n popular...no one wants 2 buy a 2000 dollar thing tha plays blu rays wen they can get a 50 dollar dvd player tha plays dvd movies...most ppl dnt care bout high definition n dont have hd tvs so dvd r gonna be the choice...far as gaming is concerned blu ray will be the big differenece..just more space for the devlopers 2 work with

Or they could have been thinking, "Hey, we need the space."

IMO

Sony released the ps3 knowing that hardcore fans would buy thus having a high price point wouldn't hurt. If PShome was availible from day 1 then there would be some serious supply/demand problems. So get the machine to market without all its future online plans in place to satisfy the hardcore fans, then announce PShome to keep those same fans looking forward to something great.  In the mean time people are still buying up the low priced ps2 knowing that at some point those customers or at least a high percentage will eventually upgrade to a ps3, by that point there will be plenty of ps3 machines availible in stores, a price drop, pshome will be out and there should be a large number of ps3 games availible as well as a nicely stocked ps store. So in about 1 year from now I can see sony doing an amazing amount of sales for the ps3 when everything comes together.

Well it kinda makes sense from a business standpoint to maybe lessen their influence on the video game market in order to make Blu-Ray the king of the next-gen formats. The video game market is worth about 13 billions in NA and the home video market is worth about 24 billions. Needless to say that one is vastly superior to the other. Not only that but formats stay around for longer than consoles do, with generations usually being 10 years +. Let's not forget that they are not completely losing the videogame market by doing so. They are losing some grip over it in order to dominate a vastly more imporant market for the next decade.

Saying to stick with DVD for 10 more years is like sticking with CD for all these times.

Hmm.. I guess they were kinda thinkin ahead, but maybe to farhead there price tag is realy hurtin, The low price drop of the  PS1 and PS2 to $149 helped give em the large lead, and right now a price drop is a long time coming but if blue-ray suceeds it  could help the gaming industry in the long run but at the same, HD-DVD is much larger than the standard DVD (Dual Layer that is) and also the cost to make games is extremely high so this gen may last awhile. which could be anyones win at this point Â
