This quote taken from Gameinformer.com has Yoshinori Kitase (producer of FF XIII-2) talking about a FF7 remake.

"If I may speak as a game creator, if we were to produce a remake of VII, for example, I would be really tempted to delete things and add new elements, new systems or whatever because if we were to make exactly the same thing now, it'd be like a repeat.

"It'd be an issue of repetition and not as much fun to make such a game. So I'd be really interested in rearranging games or reshaping games into something slightly different even though it's supposed to be the same game. But if we did that, the fans might be disappointed or 'this is not what I was expecting' so in that sense maybe some might say that it's better to let memory be memory."

What are some things that you would want to see changed? What things do you want them to keep the same? I personally think the game was amazing the way it was, it would just be cool to see it redone looking like Advent Children.

I don't think they should even consider remaking it. However, remastered ports are fine with me. Better frame rate, visuals, HD support, trophies, blah, blah, blah is fine. A PS1 game with this treatment however, would probably make it look worse. There is a reason they have not done this yet. Full on remaking a game is silly when they could be focusing on original ideas.

Look at how fed up us hardcore horror movie fans are with all of these terrible remakes being released in the last decade. Diehard fans of the originals are damn bitter when the original movie is not given proper justice. Honestly, remakes are mostly a recipe to evoke criticism rather than praise. Filmakers and game developers are just starting to realize this I think.

Anyway, if you havent played FF7, you should. It's a great game with a fantastic story. For me though, I don't think it would crack my top 5. This game is obviously very special to people and has achieved divinity in the video game world, and it should be left at that.

You want FF7 so bad? Go buy it. It is available right now for $9.99 on the PSN. You can play it on your PS3, or PSP without having to swap out discs. Why would they waste millions of $ to create a game that already exists and sells for the cost of a movie ticket?

When it comes to FF7 they would be damned however they proceeded. If they just updated the graphics fans would be pissed that they didn't get rid of some of the outdated gameplay. If they did what Kitase wants, you'd have people pissed that they didn't just update the visuals. Then you'd always have a third group that was just pissed that they messed with an old game when they could have been making something new. I say, if you want to play FF7, download it on PSN or PC or track down a hard copy. Most (not all) people clamoring for a remake of this game haven't played it since it released all those years ago and are only looking at it through rose-tinted glasses.

I would only be interested if they didnt touch the game other than visuals and sound. If they changed story or more importantly, the combat system. I would rage. The materia system is still the best to this day.

^This is exactly how I feel. The story is the first thing that they would change too. Just look at how Cloud is portrayed now. He's emo and his voice actor plays him with a dry emotionless tone. This personality would never fit with the original Cloud, the guy that dressed like a woman at one point, and said "Let's mossey" right before the final battle.

I think this is partly true. In the beginning of the game he was definately a little more up beat. But at the end of the game, after everything he went through and all of the truths he discovered he did become a little emo and disconnected.

If they did have a remake of FF7 I feel that they would change too much of the story, if it was the same game then why remake it at all?

If they can make a sequel to the craptastic game that was FF 13 then why couldn't they make a sequel to one of the best Final Fantasy games ever (imho), Final Fantasy 7?

A HD remake would be awesome.

And I dont see any reason to change anything with the game. Its a great game and shouldnt be tampered with.

Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children. It also has prequels.

On the topic of the remake, sure. I didn't actually play FF7 till early last year... if they can change up the visuals so I don't want to cast blind on myself when playing that would be nice...

Music can stay, its good.

I think its fair that cloud is a little F'ed up to be honest, given what he discovered in the game. As much as I would like to see it happen, Ive accepted it never will. It would be a dream to have an updated graphical version with the materia and combat system intact. Knowing SE though they would completely change the combat system, and pretty much ruin the game. So its probably best left alone.
