Although generally accepted as the best hand-held gaming console, I should have to deny this due to the three main bog-downs of the console and it's applications.
1. Although the graphics are top-notch for a hand held, they never really draw you in, with muddy to non-existing backgrounds, and little to no music on 70% of the games. They feel too much like playing a game and don't suck you in.
2. The game selection is probably the worst of any console. There are so many horrible attempts at games on this console, I just lose it when comparing to any other console. The only plus for the selections is that when the games are good, they're damn good. But when they're not... It feels like I shouldn't have dropped $200 for this.
3. About the controls themselves, most games make you move with the 'joy stick', which barely resembles such. It is simply a round disc that slides and often times your finger will slip off in a heated combat moment. Sometimes, the movement and input will be extremely delayed, only adding to the sense that it is only a game and therefore cannot rope you in. The battery life on the PSP is laughable and when you let it sit too long (as I have with mine) the battery power turns to crap and dies out. If inactive for three weeks to a month, you must reset the calender and time.
Before you post, know that I bought the first-gen PSP upon launch with a case for it (my first game being Tony Hawk: Remix) and generally had high hopes for it.
Tl;dr: some random flaming guy flaming a PSP
