As you well know HD-DVD has died and Blu-ray is the victor. I'm a 360 owner and really haven't given the PS3 much thought until now (yes, bring the flames! BRING IT!). Honestly, I just don't have enough time to parse between two consoles. I was going to buy just a Blu-Ray player, but the 40gb machine is about the same price as any blu-ray player. The only game I'm currently interested in for PS3 is Heavenly Sword, which is apparently a very short game. Don't care for any of the shooters/fps' on the PS3 yet. My favorite game genre is RPG's (not JRPGs, which the PS3 corners the market in). Besides being my primary blu-ray player...why should I buy this machine? Honestly? What do you do with your PS3? 'Home' just sound pathetic to me, browsing the internet on my television? Meh. I don't use the video download on the 360 much and doubt I would use it on the PS3 net. It would be nice to hear from those who own both a 360 & PS3...find out the + of each console...

*Shrugs* Dont buy one, its really of little importence to us... I'm fed up of these topics where people are pretty much saying; "I dont like the PS3 nor do i want one, change my mind now!", i've got a good mind to report this thread for trolling...

This probably isnt the place to be asking for the plus and minuses of both consoles.

Get the 80. Besides that, get a PSP. Remote Play is an amazing feature. You can access your PS3 hard drive for all media, via PSP and hotspot internet "sling-shot". Comes in extremely handy if you're away from home for extended periods of time. There is one game "Pixel-Junk Monsters" compatible w/ R.P. now, with more in store for future. The game's very addicting, too! My PS3 constantly amazes me with its capabilities. Get Uncharted, too. I'm an older gamer with roots back with the Odysee III. I've never enjoyed gaming to the extent that I do now with the PS3!

Well you have at least convinced me that I will have the same evocative and intellectual experience on PSN that I've come to expect from Xbox Live.

Well if you want a PS3 for Blu-ray player only - feel free to do so. It's a high quality player that will last for a long time.

Maybe in future there will be games that you would find enjoyable.

My uncle for example only uses it for his high definition TV set up, he has no need for gaming only for movies. However, a good part is that it has build in hard-drive so he can store his pictures and other media files.

It's up to you really, as a standalone blu-ray player, you can't go wrong. You get the top-notch product that can be updated with new features via firmware updates. Something other players will lack in future and force you to buy new models.

I see your predicament, and you want to know what we do with our PS3's? Well, mainly I game on it, but there are so many possibilities. If you have a digital camera, you can put your pictures on the PS3 and have a photo album to share with your friends and family, especially if you have a nice HDTV. There are also some great games out, and as the PS3 cliche goes, coming out. But seriously, you can download some demos(for free!) and see if there are any other games you would like. And as you said, you can of course play Blu-rays and DVDs on it. I also love importing and listening to music on my PS3. Oh, and you can also save the world with Folding @ Home.
