Send it to Sony if you still have a warranty.

Damn, that's messed up. I hope you get it fixed and soon for the awesome games coming out. I had mine since August 2007. Here's me hoping it lasts. *crosses fingers and toes*

Tecnology isn't really perfect but I do know the PS3 is a very strong piece of hardware.

wth is up with consoles these days..I still got an old NES that works to this day.

I understand if its the "well they have become PC's more-or-less now" to an certain level, but the beauty of a PC that I have built breaking down is I usually know whats wrong, how to fix it, and that I can fix it myself.

Not knocking the PS3, I got a 40g and I LOVE IT..I just think its almost become "acceptable" to buy a system, while accepting the fact that when I take it home it may burn itself out.

Did the ones behind the design of these systems maybe try to put too much in them? Are they overpowered? It just boggles my mind to hear about all these consoles breaking down and having to be sent off..I'm not used to that. I heard the PS2 had problems, but I guess it just wasn't as publicized as this generation's consoles.

I still have my old NES too, and it works just fine. I get a smile on my face every time I have to blow-out the cartridge to get the games to work, which still work flawlessly.

That said, My PS3 won't read a game disc with a thumbprint on it, and I had to replace my FFIX Disc 1 because of small scratches. Nothing's made to last anymore.

you got that right, apparently as far as gaming consoles go it seems to be the trend rather than a fluke.

Sorry to hear the bad news. I can't even imagine how I myself would feel if my 40 gig crashed on me.

I don't know what's going on either. Apparently, it could be the possibility that too much was put into these consoles. Sony should keep a look out on the matter and see how they could fix the problem so it doesn't occur to the majority.

that yellow light means that the hard drive has gone bad, buy a new one or replace it with an existing one.

So a blinking yellow light means a bad hdd thats good to know I guess the TC could go ahead and buy a new hdd and see if it works if it doesn't he could just return the hdd anyways. Unless he has warrenty on it, his PS3 is out of warrenty and will probably cost around 150 for Sony to fix it.

That's why I got an extended warranty for mine, although I've had mine since launch, and had no problems. That really sucks though.

I feel for you mate. My 40 gig died a while ago but it was under my warranty so i got it fixed for free. It sucks to be waiting for the system to come back :(. Catch up on some old games for the time being.

If it's a hdd problem, it's a lot cheaper to fix. I got a 100gb 7200rpm for about $50 at ubid.com for my 20gb. Note to 20gb ps3 of mine: "If you blink any yellow lights like his did, I'll kill you!"
