Anybody else having similar problems?

It would be hell for me as an obsessive-compulsive ...
... if it wasn't for the fact that I set very strict guidelines for myself.
For instance, I only play the highest-rated installment from each franchise per generation (for instance, I'll only play Uncharted 2, not the first one), unless the franchise is on my FAVORITES list (in which case I will play ever HIGH-rated installment of the series).
In addition, every game (unless I specifically make an exception for it) must score at least an 8.5 average critics score and 85% on metacritic/gamerankings.
I also stay away from certain genres ... such as racing, sports, simulation, puzzle, strategy, etc. I only play narratives with characters. I also stay away from all historical shooters, medievel fantasy RPGs, and MMORPGs... but mostly because I've never liked any of those.
I also don't play handheld or downloadable games, as I consider console games to be superior (agree or disagree, if I don't even have the time and energy to play all the great console games, then I'm definitely not going to be going to downloadables or handheld titles ... there's just no reason to do so).
When I set in all those filters, it makes it so that I only play the most optimal titles tailor-made for MY preferences.
And as you said in the first post, playing TOO many games per generation definitely cheapens the experience and makes each game less satisfying. I've found that so does playing multiple installments from the same series. That's why I try to only play the BEST installment from each franchise.
Of course, if it's something like Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, BioShock, or Mass Effect, then I want to get my hands on as many as possible. If Heavy Rain were a series, every single installment would be on my list. I'd even make an exception for low-scoring ones. So it all depends on the game.
