Alright so by now we all know that the ps3 failure rate is like .03% or some ridiculous #. But for the people with the .03% of those ps3s; what the are some or all or the reasons the ps3 breaks or fails. I personally have gone through 3 so far:

  • 1st Freezing and crashing
  • 2nd Left side of the slot loader gear was busted so the disc would turn as it got sucked in
  • 3rd Awesome So far

You think thats bad? My Xbox 360 record to date is even more ridiculous 12 count em 12!! I still love both though.

Mine just stop reading all disks as well, after it froze while I was playing CoD4.

I took it back to the store and they sent it back to sony for me and sony sent back a new one, just going to go pick it up tomorrow/today.

I've been without my PS3 for a month though.

Just because is freezes, dosent mean its going to "die"

PS2s used to freeze years ago, but still work perfectly to this day, as did PS1s

Careful, K... I used to pull that around the Xbox 360 forums. Then my 360 went bad... then I bought a new one while my broken one was in India... and the new one was broken in the box. Don't go messin' with that karma.

when my ps3 broke, the disc (dvd) got stuck inside the drive, it wouldnt play and it wouldnt come back out, it also wouldnt allow me to play demos, videos from the hdd or play music it was quite frustrating though i had a new one sent to me in a matter of days (2 i think, 3 at most) and they took away the broken one. didnt return my dvd thats the only complaint i have!

I've had two weird things happen, both of which I think were caused by the game, not my PS3. In half-life I ended up getting stuck in a giant white void, and then in Oblivion my sound went crazy, and eventually the game froze. Everything else is fine though.

From the sound of things.... you are the problem... unless you own one of those businesses where kids can pay to play on consoles. I don't know which number is more incredible... having 2 PS3's break on you, or having 12 360's.

On console freezing.

Think of the massive amount of binary information that a computer system has to process, I find it more baffling that freezes or crashes don't happen more. All that needs to happen is one little 1 to be confused with an 0 out of the quatrillion of information bits being streamed and that can crash the whole process. Yes it sucks to have a game crash just a you are delivering the final blow to a boss after trying for 6 hours to beat him but that is life in the wonderful world of technology.

Freezing is a software fault, luckily your hardware is fine if it feezes.
