I would say mayb more than five :

1- HD-TV

2- 7.1 Surround Sound (with HDMI, Digital Optical input)

3- HDMI Cables

4- Resistance FoM

5- Dust Cleaner (to clean my precious)

i would add more but that would be cool to start ur ps3 wid.

HDTV is a must.

7.1 surround with HDMI is a waste of money IMO.
my 5.1 thru optical sounds amazing.

i will have to agree with you to a point, right now its probably not worth the upgrade to 7.1 because of the cost, and limited support, but im sure in another year or 2 it will probably be worth it

thats my opinion if i have the money :P 10000" HD TV 100.2 Surround Sound :D that would be cool.. and ofcourse something to remove the dust from the ps3 hehe,,, ur thoughts ?

Top 5 things I would say grab some friends, grab some controllers and thats about all you need. Sometimes you can exclude the friends part: lol.

a bluetooth headset for my phone and ps3 was the only thing i really needed and i just got that Ummmmm more games i guess would be next

1 and 3 are key 2 isn't too urgent 4 is something I missed out on. I made Marvel my 1st game. Stupid mistake on my part? 5 is something I hadn't noticed either. 2 weeks in and my PS3 is still pretty clean

usb 16 foot cable by I O Gear, because wireless controllers is not reliable as people think

hook that usb cord to ps3s logitech chillstream controller and your set

logitech gameing keyboard to hook up a mouse

Man the cost for latest and greatest is expensive. luckly i got two jobs. So far i got

1. Sony 42" Wega HDTV 2. HDMI Cable 3. 5.1 Surround System 4. Bluetooth headset 5. Bluetooth Remote (for blu-ray movies) 6. Wipes for the dust. 7. Of Course Resistance and some cold beer to go with my gaming

but if you're going to fork out the dough to get a nice home theater system, it's not gonna cost you much more to go 7.1.....most mid-priced receivers support it nowadays and you'd only have to pay for two more speakers.
