So from what I have figured out on Top Spin 3 there is no way to setup a game and invite a specific person. Has anyone figured out a way to do this??? I just don't think it can be done which is just unbelivable. I mean seriously how can you have a tennis game that doesn't allow you to play someone specific. Just a freaking random match setup..... 2K Sports seriously blew this one if there isn't some magic setting that I can't find.

I played video games in the 90's that would allow for that..........maybe it should be called 1K sports....

So I guess nobody else bought this game. The online is a shame, because I really like the game otherwise...

sven, I actually havent tried to connect to a specific player. Played online a few times and got my a$$ kicked. If that wasnt a feature then i too would be very dissapointed!

It is not a feature it is unbelivable actually. Especially a game that is geared for one-vs-one gaming. Just unreal.

I agree there needs to be a lobby of some sorts implemented. In World Tour "Which is where you can only play as your created character) You have no choice on who you play but in the other mode you can search for a custom match and just leave all the options at "Any" and a few different players and game types will pop up. All I play is World Tour though and there needs to be a lobby or rooms.

mudd - the custom room is not custom matches though. You can't select to play a specific person it is just unreal to me. What sport game hasn't had that function for the last few years....

Guess what - the game also doesn't support voice chat!

Oh, and there is no persistant online ranking system (all the rankings get reset every two weeks, which would be fine by me as long as they also had a persistant ranking that didn't get deleted).

And also, there is no way to select what rank player you want to play against!

I just don't understand why they would scrap everythign from Top Spin 2 and start fresh and then screw things up that were fine in part 2 to begin with.

I mean I love the gameplay (although there is a bit of lack of satisfication in letting go of a button to hit the ball) but they really messed up some stuff big time.

Completely agree. I really don't mind going for a big overhaul of gameplay. It is brave and it works pretty good. I do think they scared of a lot of people doing it and I think they should have had a "classic" option. Either way what they have done to the online portion is horrible. It is like they just ignored all previous games in any genres and decided to be super lazy about it. Considering that it can do doubles (as long as two people are in the same room) it had some potential.

I wrote to 2k sports and asked how come you couldn't do custom games and since this is clearly an error I asked when the update will come out. I suggest everyone else does as well. Unfortunately I assume they dropped online support as soon as the first sales numbers came in.....

My Swedish friend and I were discussing this game the other day. If the world was full of wackjobs that wanted to play tennis online the jaunra would be full of great games. But the 5 gamers that actualy play this game should be happy that they have anything at all. Next time you complain about your tennis online support please get in line behind the little girls who want online support fixed for their barbie magical princess games

Ummm, but if Top Spin 2 got most of this stuff right (voice chat, ability to select the players you want to compete against, persistent online rankings) I don't think that it is asking too much that Top Spin 3 simply not screw these things up.

I have found that reason doesn't work for teenagers with their face full of pimples that spends hours yelling at the tv and feeling successful because they can aim an animated gun at an animated figure and kill it. I am guessing that the friend mentioned is one of his instant messaging "buddies"

I'm just sayin, rather than waste your time on a game like Top Spin 3 that is clearly inferior, especially online, and then complaining about it, you should try a game with a good online mode like Fifa 2008.

Well no, that is not what you were "just sayin" in your last post. In fact, what you have now said is competely different.

As for what you are currently saying, I am not wasting my time playing Top Spin 3 and then complaining about it. I am enjoying it and then complaining about some elements of the game that are problematic, which is a fairly normal and common thing to do.

Your comment about Fifa 2008 doesn't make sense. It is not clearly superior to Top Spin 3 (that is a matter of opinion). Its also a completely different sport so it's a very odd suggestion to give up on Top Spin 3 and just play a soccer game (what if I don't like soccer)?

Don't argue over a game friends. Just bring your mates over and play Virtua tennis doubles game. That was a very entertaining experience for me.

If VT did online I would have bought it. Only reason I bought TS3 was for the online - clearly a bad decision. For the other poster - why get FIFA2008 when Resistance 2 is coming out......oh wait that logic doesn't make sense.....

I don't know if soccer balls cost more than tennis rackets, but I got a great deal on FIFA08 from some dolt in Alaska with 2 copies that played Resistance all the time.

See you on the links!

You can do voice chat and friend invites on the 360 version. If the ps3 version does not suport those features, thats sad.

Not mentioned in the reviews - the only reason for a lower score was that the reviewers thought it was hard to play with revamped game setup

Didn't know that - second time PS3 gets screwed. VT3 was online by SEGA for the 360 and not for the PS3.......

There is no "if" for friend invites - only random matching available on the PS3.
