I am going to start my PSP console career with Final Fantasy :Crisis Core, I travel alot from place to place, in the 25th of this month I think I'm going to be in Dubai, I intend to purchase my own PSP and UMD "FFCC", but still didn't make up my mind on what to choose a Slim or the old Phat PSP-reasons would be nice ??

also I am not so familiar with the safety notes about turning it on for the first time, and if the default memory is enough if I want just to play the crisis core for now,I don't need to play any other PS1 game on my PSP, I just want it for Crisis Core.

So what do you advice me, any note would be useful...thanks for your help

The slim is just like the older version except lighter, and it might have faster load times, I'm not exactly sure if thats true. I'd get the slim.

I would go for the Slim. It loads faster, has double the RAM. Lighter. Doesn't feel like you're carrying a brick around in your pocket. With the Old Phat PSP the load times are slower. With the Slim they're faster. o.o

ok, listen guys I am about to take my decision here, just stick with me till the end, any body can confirm these info :

1- Is the screen in the Slim PSP smaller ?

2- Is the slim PSP is more affected with the heat and so with a shorter life ? " you know electronic devices" the smaller they are the less their resistable they became .

3- any notes for the battery ?

4- Am I adviced to do anything before I start it for the first tim ? any directions in Mind " Experienced GUys " ?

The screen is the same size on both versions of the PSP.

The Slim PSP has a brighter, more clearly seen screen.

The Slim PSP also has a faster processor inside, aswell as more memory, which leads to is loading games a bit faster then the Phat PSP.

The Slim PSP is also ALOT lighter, and fits most peoples hands alot better. The bettery life is the same.

Overall the SLIM PSP is the better choice, and is more future proof than the Phat.

Get the slim

Are you saying I am ready to start my career as a 2nd-C-Soldier in the 25th of this month ? no need to charge the PSP before using it the first time or should I empty the battery and recharge it directly after the first start up operation ?

Well, the printed manual tells you to charge the PSP first. You can do the installation while its charging. The manual also tells you how to handle your battery and charges and stuff.

Himura , what installation are you talking about ? is there some software I have to install in the PSP before I can insert the UMD ? I know I may seem clueless but I will never forget your help.

I have not noticed any loose buttons on my slim...

It's worked perfectly since I got it. The psp doesn't have default memory unless you buy a bundle, a 1gb memory stick is just fine for games.

The psp is fully charged right outta the box, no extras to play umds, just throw the umd in

Its like a console. Its playable right out of the box. The only thing that you'll want to change is your username and your wi-fi internet settings which are pretty self explanatory.

Fadi-Bayzid

No software. Ok, what you got to do:

1. Take it out of the box and open the manual.

2. The manual will tell you how to put in the battery and the Memory card into the PSP

3. When the battery and card are in, plug the PSP to the electrical outlet

4. Turn on the PSP and follow the instructions

5. Enjoy

Its a SD card. Not to difficult since many cameras also use the same type of memory card. I would recommend a 2 to 4 GB memory stick.

Thanks Kakashi, I will put that in mind.

Just to make sure that My UMD will be in the safe-side, is the UMD affected if its used for along time?

also wanted to ask, I intend to leave the umd inside my Slim till I beat the game, so is it a wrong thing to do ?

add to that that I heard that it is no problem if you wanted to turn your slim off while playing and go for a walk or anything else and when you come back and turn it on the game will continue from where you left it , is that right and does that damage the UMD or harm it ?

Fully charged ..huh, well thats the good news , since I'm dying to feel the experience of a portable console, hey listen: someone told me that it is better to set the PSP config. on: " SOME KIND OF a NON-AUTOMATIC UMD STARTING", I mean he told me to change some system configuration in order to start the PSP moving to the Menu first>> then >> to start the game manually, is that a good idea? and what is the difference? why ? why should I do that ?

i agree GET THE SLIM, BUT the screen is the same, same clarity and brightness its just that the plastic screen infront of the actual LCD is much thinner and clearer so it appears that way :P and the processor is not faster, just more ram so it laods more at a time then the phat so it seems faster. the CPUs are clocked the same.

What is the benefit when you change some system configuration in order to start the PSP moving to the Menu first-even if the UMD is inserted->> then >> to start the game manually, is that a good idea?

Is fine either way. If the first thing you want to do when you insert your game is to play, then leave it on automatic UMD, if not, do it manually, is ok either way.

BTW, when you get your PSP-2000 (the slimmer one) get a PSP Battery pack with 2200mAh, its almost double the 2000's battery life, and because of the new hardware, the 2000 will last even longer then the 1000 (phat).

Have fun with your PSP!

Fadi-Bayzid

Well, this isn't going to make sense yet, since you don't actually have a PSP yet, but when you start up the PSP without a UMD in it when you begin, you will be taken to the XMB, or the homescreen for the PSP. Here, you have the general topics (Games, Music, Photo) and each have little options you can pick in them (for example, Game has "saved data", "UMD", and "memory stick" options under it). To set the PSP so that it will NOT start the UMD instantly, you do:

Settings (option farthest left) --> System Settings --> UMD Auto-Start (set it to off by pressing X [or if you have a Asian PSP, O]).

There is no particular advantage to doing this and if you are going to use your PSP only for games anyways, there is no real point. But if you are like me and use it as my MP3 player, watch episodes of the latest anime, and show off my vacation pictures occasionally, doing this will save some time from exiting out of the game. Only a few seconds will be saved, but it's a nice feature none-the-less.

Go with the Slim ..

Its does not have as much battery time as the phat .. the phat has a 1800mAh battery where the Slim has 1200mAh .. så you need to buy an extra battery if you want to have extra battery time ..

And on page 2 someone sayed that the PSP used SD-cards ?? wtf .. its uses Sony's own Memory Stick Pro Duo .. you need to get one too save your game on .. 32-64mb is fine just for save games .. i have a 4GB my self .. i have musik and videos and stuff :P ..

Is that so ? an ...extra battery...well that is new, extra battery 2200 Amh- Sorry what do you mean by Amh?-

also about 2 G Bytes, any suggestions on what brand of batteries should I consider?

Do you think "Virgin" the mega-store -if anybody know it- might have all these accessories you're talking about ?

so sad, that the batterey of the slim has a shorter lifetime ,

BTW

today I noticed a noticed that the door where you insert the UMD in the PSP Slim is different from the door in the PHAT PSP, second has a safety lock.what do you think buddies ?

Ah, my mistake. I was thinking about memory stick duo, but then for some reason, SD popped into my head.

Also, while the battery for the Slim is overall weaker than the bigger PSP's battery, the Slim is much more efficient at using the battery, so it ends up with the same battery life anyways. As for the back cover, Im not sure, but I think the new batterys (sold seperatly) come with a custom cover for Slim PSPs.

1. mAh... its like measures the amount of eletricity... I dunno, but the bigger it is the longer it is :)

2. 2GBytes = memory. Batteries is different. But for Memory Stick Pro Duo's, Sandisk is a little faster than the Sony ones, but the Sony ones are cheaper. Don't buy $1-5 on eBay! They are probably fakes. And if you where asking for batteries, just get the Sony batteries, 3rd party batteries are known to explode, or short out.

3. I dunno what Virgin is... like Virgin mobile? Or like Virgin the music producers? Or like Virgin the game company?

4. Yeah, but the Slim is about the same battery life as the Phat, even thought the smaller mAh(whatever..). The Slim has newer hardware that uses less batteries.

5. I don't think the Slim UMD door is gonna be a problem. It kinda just opens if you pull on it, and the Phat, there is a slider and it pops open. But if you ever break the door, the Slim would be easier to repair, by yourself. BTW its at the same spot, and you just put it in, like putting cookies in an oven (seriously, its really like that, except the cookie is a UMD disk).

The only problem I have with the slim is the fact that the analog stick isn't removable like the original.. Where you could get a nice 3rd party analog pad much better then the junk one it comes with.

That's what I'm talking about : I mean no one noticed-except sSubZerOo- that the Analog stick is not removable like the Phat one, I noticed that but I keep telling myself that the one I saw might be old, cause I trust your experience guys...so if anyone else noticed that please tell me the difference between the two analog sticks ...I would be thankful for life

Its true, my psp is brand new.. When I first bought one of those 3rd party analogs.. I tried doing what the directions told me on removing the analog stick.. It was immensely resistent.. Luckily I was smart enough to check forums tof ind out that if I did it, it would ruin the analog stick.. So yes thats one gripe I have which I didn't understand why Sony decided to do that.. Seeing as the analog stick it comes with is pretty lame to use.

mmm...I am now confused again, while the slim has all these advantages -which those great guys and girls mentioned earlier- still the analog stick is one of the most important things to enjoy the game...

-------Slim--------- ---------Phat---------

Better Hardware older ofcourse

less battery consumption normal battery consumption

free skype no skype

a Pushing door a switch door

comes with a 1200 Amh 1800 Amh

more RAMs Shorter loading Standard RAMs

worse analog Stick More Precise analog move" Which affect the Action RPG games alot"

You know the caring I found from guys and girls here, made me want their opinion extremely, and if they would be kind and read my last message, then I need from everyone of them to send a message and to write in this message just the Model of psp he advise me to purchase : one word : either Slim or Classic ...and I shall purchase the higher voiced for Model...

Thanks for your Honest Voices

Slim. I have no gripes about the analogue stick. My guess is that he is holding the PSP too far into his palm to have it comfortable.
