i wondered if its actually worth to change. im concerned about the reliability of fat ps3. according to what i read here, they are more prone to ylod, yet mine works fine. plus, i get a year warranty with the slim model

I have the ps3 slim and its good. The reason I got it over the fat was because of the reliability. I don't see why you wouldn't want the slim. -ICON-the only reason why i still have my 60gb is bc i still play my capcom vs snk2 and mvc2 =] i don't have a ps2 D:
Sell it yourself, don't trade it in, you'll get ripped off. Ebay and Craigslist are your friends. You may be able to almost get that $300 to pay for the slim.

No... not really.... the original 60GB BC PS3 are just too unstable... I used to have one... YLOD... my new Slim runs much quieter too...less stable then the 40GB even... which I use as my Bedroom unit.

if you dont use your ps3 for bc then go for it. but i would only do it if its a straight up trade, not if you have to pay anything out of pocket... if anything they should pay you out of pocket.. ive seen some 60gb ps3s go for +350 on ebaysry for the late reply.
i dont use BC, i have a ps2 for that. i dont really care for the space, i just play games(no movies, music, maybe a couple of demos and thats it).
btw, ive had my ps3 bc since august 07.
the slim is more stable than my 60 gig bc right?

Why... on earth... would you do smoething so STUPID?! You say you currently have the 60GB model... THE BEST, and most feature-complete system that Sony has actually brought out... and you want to... trade it in? For a neutered piece of **** slim? I cannot believe what I am reading here  No person in their right mind would give up a perfectly working, fully functional unit for one that is so effectively neutered. You're much better served getting a new, larger hard drive in that system and going with that. As it is now, it's much more in your interest to hang on and keep that 60GB model running, because it is so feature complete. Having more hard drive space, especially when the system can take a standard hard drive upgrade at any time, doesn't mean much of anything compared to all the lost functionality and usability, or the power efficiency. So the slim runs cooler. Okay, that's one thing I will grant that the new model does well. But if anything, Sony should have never got rid of all that functionality to begin with... So it has HDMI-CEC support? ... Considering that Sony has already been able to update the HDMI port from 1.0~1.1 on launch units to 1.3a purely through firmware updates, along with upgrading from Profile 1.0 to 2.0, 3.0 (audio only) and that the ps3 will be the first player in this year to be able to update for 3D display (which would require a minimum 120Hz TV to plug into, and probably HDMI 1.4), there seems to be little - IF anything - to actually indicate that CEC functionality couldn't just be added to the older units via firmware update too. I personally, am of the opinion that the 60GB original, is still the ideal model to have. And it is still the most feature-complete unit to have. And until Sony will stop beating around the bush with us, and releases a new model, featuring really good (if not hardware) BC, along with the restored functionality, and improved power efficiency of these slims into a single package, there simply won't be an acceptable replacement for the original 60GB model, or ANY BC capable models.i wondered if its actually worth to change. im concerned about the reliability of fat ps3. according to what i read here, they are more prone to ylod, yet mine works fine. plus, i get a year warranty with the slim model

Exactly and add that once the PS2 is out of production the 20, 60 and 80 gig (with BC support) the value of these systems could very well increase. I would never get rid of my 60 gig system unless there is a system released with all the features the BC systems had. He's right, that's what I did. All that hot air, and no logic to use it. What you said means nothing if the piece of crap dies on you. He would be smart to get the Slim while he has a chance.JudgementEdenSo you would prefer to buy a neutered console with reduced functionality over repairing a fully featured model? And you say I have no sense. I Never said it wasn't painful. I am on my fourth 60GB ps3, all told. But you couldn't even pay me to accept these neutered units that Sony dares call a PS3 now. Only reason I'd recently considered one, is because one of my roomies (and a very good friend, mind you) had been having a lot of problems with Samsung's BD-P1600 BluRay players, and several online review sites have pointed out much of the same issues, as well as that Samsung is treating this eerily like Toyota was treating the (now known) sticky throttle pedals. While it ended up being more money, he'd then got it replaced with a Sony BDP-S560, which has been equated more closely to the ps3, as he simply did not want to have to use a gaming console for a BluRay player. I can see where he's coming from with that sentiment (he doesn't game), but it does seem like even now, the ps3's the only BD player worth having.
because, I hate the system shock of having my console dying on me because of YLOD...samuraiguns:| You're talking to someone that, including the current ps2 and ps3 I have now, has went through about ten PlayStation products (since PS1) to finally have (a) console(s) that would actually BE reliable and not scratch discs or something equally infuriating. And even with this, I would still rather repair the 60GB I have than to have to replace it. Why? because eventually I'm going to have to retire my PS2. And I'd prefer it if I still had something where I can still enjoy that immense library I've accumulated on another system. At least with current firmware, its ability to upscale PS1 and PS2 games is quite good, and much cleaner than playing them on the actual PS2. Right now, I can't totally retire the PS2, due to the fact that because it is modified, it lets me also play out-of-region games that (as it is) the PS3 won't even try to load. Hence, why I personally am looking forward to the day the ps3 finally does get cracked or whatever to make it happen, and allow my (third) PS2 to finally retire after a long and rewarding career.
Go to newegg. Buy a tube of arctic silver ceramique and the biggest laptop HDD you can afford. Take the PS3 apart. Apply arctic silver to the CPU and GPU. Install the new HDD. Put everything back together. Problem solved.
It would be idiotic to get rid of a 60GB BC PS3. I like my slim, but it's definitely a step down from the old BC models.
Heck, if you don't want the 60GB BC PS3, PM me and I'll trade you my slim for it.
