I honestly don't think there is that much use of headsets in the PSN community, but I'd assume there would be a far amount of s**t sprayed everywhere, just like for every online community. It's a good reason for just not investing in a headset to be honest.

I totally agree with you! I've never used an headset on my PS3 (or my XBOX360) and I don't intend to ever buy one. There's just too much smack talk going on in online communities and I find nothing fun in it. And because I'm a loner and I don't take games seriously, I honestly don't give a damn about "strategies".Â
Well then, you have now taught me yet another reason not to get a PS3. Part of the fun of playing online is to be able to talk with other players, and if you can't do that it kind of makes the experience rather dull and lonely. This is especially the case when playing on a team, given that an inability to communicate with friendlies can make the whole experience limited. Not everyone has a mic on Xbox Live, but a fair amount do, and in about 80% of all Gears of War matches I play there is at least some interaction b/w me and other players. It's also pretty prevalent in most other games. In Burnout Revenge, indicators tell you which players have mic's, and from that I can safely say about 80-90% of players I play with in that game have one connected.NicAgent
despite the fact that XBL is almost 80% 10 year olds who want to pick fights with people online, you still want to play against them?
and besides, what meaningful conversation can you start with someone you don't know and you can't see?

As you see, I am an Xbox Live player and do not own a PlayStation 3. But I was curious to know how prevalent trash-talking is on PSN games? Is it bad? Is it anything like R6V and Halo 2?NicAgent
Of course you will encounter trash talk no matter what system you use. The PS3 does not come with a mic so hardly anyone uses it and sometimes it is not available. The solution is to play with friends or mute the mic.
I don't encounter any trash talk with PC games but that could be because hardly anyone uses it when it is available.

Ok........ I do not see you point. I only somtimes talk..usually it distracts me in a game, but alot of times I get into conversations during soem fragging in Resistance. And if you have friends then talk to them. I frnakly don't care cause its a good thing to have but not parimount. People do talk on PSN just not as much as Live, and yes I do here alot more trash in Live then PSN. Â

That is where a mute button comes in. If you do not want to hear anyone then turn on mute and I think all online games should at least support voice.

SO you must be one of those players who hide behind your mic. If we gave you another reason then thats great. dont get the ps3 So we dont have to hear your whining.
Oh and i just had a little question: You're asking this because you enjoy the trash talking and the intesity of Halo 2 and R6 Vegas, right? CUZ I DO! Well, most of it. Not the annoying stuff like little 12 year old boys yelling the F word and then laughing, but i mean real down right harcore gaming trashtalk!smith447I don't actually. I feel very hurt inside and feel intimidated sometimes by such actions. The worst part is that they almost never get disciplined and if I am getting my a** handed to me then perhaps their words are justified.

im sure sony will add some sort of communication to ps3's later on. for now, i'm fine playing resistance or stuff without headsets. i don't want my living room filled with people screaming and yelling OWNED or PWNED or wearing a headset when i have a 5.1 surround system. PC is so much more convenient with a kb... Â

You must be a loner in real life. Take a step outside snowflake.
are you guys crazy?
Â
other BT problems which you guys may be experiencing and probably not notice.
I've always been able to talk to people on online games, it is not non-existent. BTW to the poster
this is only a few people's experience in the network.
Sure online play is fun but PS3 also has many good games to play by yourself or with friends.
I'm sorry to hear that you won't buy one cause of it still being a new network, still getting games, still getting buyers, and plagued with many BT problems. It seems you'll be more content on XBL anyways, however don't take this topic as definitive evidence that PS3 has no one online with mics, and that there is no one on it. Â
Â
Cause that's untrue, and also will change in a year or so.Â
PS3 will be alive when Home is out
And when Socom 4 is out. Socom always gave us the offical Sony Headset. Its the reason no one talks. Who want to take a gamble buying a bluetooth headset when its non offical. I might get one of those madcats headsets. Made for PS3Â

Umm, trash talking happens on any game on any system. Sorry, but you don't seem too bright...Â
I don't see much of a reason to play online without mics. I could care less if there is smack talk every now and then, if the host doesn't kick the person doing all the talk most people just start making fun of him/her. I'm really good at games and I love when people start talking smack, then I know who to gun for twice as often or who to "accidently" ram into a wall in Forza or other racing games.
I've met some nice people online, people who are able to work as a team, etc. I'd hate to play something like Brothers in Arms (when it comes out) on the PSN if no one is talking and the game is all about tactics. Or Rainbow Six Vegas, "They grabbed the package, I can get him just tell me which way he went." *Silence* "Uhhhh, guys....." The new Ghost Recon in the co-op missions there are objectives that you need to do at the exact same time, hard to do if no one has a mic. Most people without mics are hated on Xbox Live and are kicked from games I would hope that the PSN would grow to be the same way.
