Trophies. Added value or meaningless accomplishments?

What it is GS collective!? Been a while since I created a topic. Recently my lil cousin accidently deleted my trophies for PoP. He was scared I was going to jump on his head like he was a Goomba. But thats just it. I really dont care about trophies. Yeah, I dont have a single platinum and I don't care. I understand there are rabid trophy hunters out there that weild their trophy card like its a black AMEX card or something. I understand that they can add replay value, but shouldnt that be the games job? Shouldnt the awesome story and gameplay be whats keeping you poppin that disc back in your ps3? Not the elusive (collectible, combo, killstreak, etc)

Personally, I dont really care about trophies. Theyre nice, but meaningless. I mean are your parents bragging to the neighbors that you got that crushing trophy on Uncharted or that you platted SSF4? If Sony transferred trophies into money that could be spent on the PSN, then I might be inclined to start goin back through some dusty titles.

How bout it guys n gals, do trophies matter to you or not? I for one have had my PS3 for 3 years now and am fine with not having a single platinum.

No, that's not what I said. One choice makes you look like a show-off, another says you only play for trophies, the other one shows you don't really care about trophies, and the other two are stupid. There's no choice for someone who goes for trophies but doesn't buy games solely for trophies (the majority of people).

It's not an either / or proposition. The platinums I've got were only because I enjoyed the game so much - the gameplay kept me poppin' the disc back in - that I thought what the heck; as long as I'm spending so much time with this game anyway, why not try to get all the trophies. It's a fun challenge.

I really don't care about them, I have several games which don't support trophies and they happen to be favorites. A well-done game is it's own reward.

Even though I don't give a Rat's arse about getting trophies personally I can see that they give games added value to games that have them. I have 54 trophies but I don't have a single Platitum trophy. I just cannot be bothered doing everything in a game to get a Plat trophy. One person I know is addicted to getting trophies. I play my games and if I get a trophy Then great. So yes they create added value for people except me.

Agreed. Didn't we just go through this yesterday with another thread? How many repeat threads do we have to go through in this forum? Like I really need20 people telling me that Resistance 3 was confirmed at Gamecon. Read before you post people.

I know the only reason I'm still playing FFXIII is to get the trophies.

Then it's going in a dark corner to gather dust.....Forever.

They're secondary to me. I play the game to have fun and when I get it unlocked, it's pretty cool. After I beat the game I do check out what Trophies are left and if it's fun to do, I'll go for it.

There are people who create a PSN ID that people can share just to boost Trophies. I think that's pretty sad, but whatever. If it's a big deal to them, that's their business. :)

If you should decide to sell your PS3 along with your games, I'm sure you can get some added value by selling your account with the trophies on them.

If a game begs me to platinum it, like PoP Forgotten Sands I rented, then yeah, why not.

If I have to climb on Mount Everest just to get a few trophies then I may try but I'm not gonna go crazy over it.

I play the game beat it and if I enjoyed it enough (which for the most part I do) Il go out and get a few trophies...But trophies like 1 mil XP points in Resistance 2 is like way to out of my reach you know ? So Il play it get some extra ones but won't go to far out of my way

this question has been asked way too many times. Also how do you delete trophies? There is no reason to justify why anyone enjoys collecting trophies nor does it need to make sense to anyone other than the person who is doing it.

It depends on the game I guess. I don't purposely go for trophies. But once in awhile its fun just to try and get a challenging one. I won't stress it if I can't though. I will admit, I like hearing the little "ding" sound when I least expect it. I'm like "Oh cool, I got a trophy." Then actually checking your collection to see what you actually did, lol.

But to answer the question. No, trophies don't have value, and personally I don't think they are accomplishments. Losing 30 lbs is an accomplishment, buying a house is an accomplishment, getting your college degree is an accomplishment, convincing your girl to take it in the....well you get the idea...

Fourth option for me. I don't even have any platinums, and probably wont bother trying to get any either. That said, there's nothing wrong with liking them if that's your thing, just don't go thinking you're better at gaming than I am just because you strive for them.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with them.

I don't bother collecting trophies unless it's for, say, a specific game that i really want to plat.

But outside of that, some like them and some dont.

they aint the be all and end all of gaming, but they aint worthless either

I like them, but I've started to get bored of them lately. I have 20 platinums and I'm proud of that. I could get a couple more on some of the games I have, but they're total grindfests so I just haven't had any motivation to play them any time soon.

I hate multiplayer trophies though, all trophies should only be for single player, plus no trophies should be added on after a game is released, otherwise you're left with something like 73% with a platinum and its just annoying

I'll usually look through them and get the easily attained trophies. after I beat the game, if i liked it enough and im fairly close to the plat, i'll go for it.

I am not on this site all day everyday like some of you kids or adults with jobs that allow that. I have 2 jobs and I go to college as well as having a "real life". Sorry I didnt go through a cpl back pages to make sure I didnt harm the delicate sensitivities of the ps3 forum crybabies. I swear this forum has become overrun with whiny, ever-complaining, self proclaimed elitists. I know were talkin about video games here, but GROW UP. If all you contribute to these forums are nitpicking about topics and how the poll options are worded or someone from another countrys spelling or bashing a persons opinion, then you have missed the entire point of what a forum is.

i agree with that.

multiplayer trophies should be seperate from the sp ones. many games i would have plats on if it werent for the mp trophies.
