Well, I've been wondering for a while if people play PS3 games for trophies or for just having fun. I myself am a trophy hunter and rarely buy games without trophies. (with the exception of guitar hero) But I went over to my friends house and his trophy list is full of bronzes. So give me your opinion on how you view trophies... lazy way to add replayability or pride earners?

I didn't like them until I got my first platinum. Once I got that...I couldn't stop. So I like just getting the platinum trophy and I would NEVER play a game as much as I do if it didn't have trophies.

Well, that depends on the individual. I for one love collecting trophies. To me they add extra replay value to games and feel it adds a personal sense of accomplishment. I know many people on my friends list that could care less about them, though, which is fine. What I hate hearing, though, are people who aren't interested in the trophy system ramble on about people who spend time collecting them and say they're wasting their time. Why should they care? Let people play games how they want and not worry about other people's personal goals while playing.

I don't mind trophies...but, if you play only to get trophies and need an icon to tell you that you achieved something in a game...you have problems. :)

We want it all. It's in our nature. And it is addictive.

  • Fallout 3
  • Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

If to get the platinum is a chore I wont bother...

They addre-playabilityto those that enjoy getting them after beating the game once or w.e. I myself am not a fan of them. I just get frustrated and often just go for the easiest ones if I am in a hunting mood. Otherwise... i could care less for them. I mean, its not like if we get x amount of trophies we get some special reward.. So yeah. Besides showing how much time youve put into a game, it doesnt do much else.

After reading what you have written, I started thinking about "what if the amount of trophies mattered when you wanted to d.load anything from the PSN" example: If you want to dload Map Pack for CoD you have to get all the trophies for the game. Sounds stupid I know

No way they'd do something like that. It would cripple their sales. If trophies are going to have any value at all it should be on HOME. Maybe that would make people take more interest in it.

I like trophies. I would never have attempted Resident Evil 5 on Professional if there was nothing for me at the end of it. :)

There is also a feeling of satisfaction when you see that 100% next to the game.

Also if the game/trophies are designed well then they will make you play the game again in a different way. For example on Resistance 2 I found mself only looking for kills using fire. Instead of the usually blasting with a big gun.

I've got 5 more emblems to get. Started the chicken run last night. I do like to earn trophies as well, if the game is worth it.

I don't want them. It's like they are not even there when I play a game. Could care less if the little trophy icon shows up or not. I play (and buy) games for fun, not because I can get a virtual trophy that means nothing.

I got linger in the shadows before I knew what trophies were... I never really cared. but For me it makes the 60 dollar price tags much more worth it. Plus I get to explore different challenges that I normally wouldn't. Just like in years past when people would collect 99 items of everything in FF7 just for the challenge and what not. anyway I could care less really about bragging. even though I have that thing in my sig. It's more about sharing and pride in your accomplishments

I think trophies have their uses. Devs can use them to help you experience their game in new ways, or as added incentive to replay games. It's really the players that obsess over them that make them detestable. Don't play games for trophies, unlock trophies as you play games. People seem to think everyone will begin to have the utmost respect for them if their trophy count is high or something.

If the trophies were used as unlockables like in uncharted where you earn new things like a cheat or a new weapon or a new car in a racing game then I would care. For the most part they are just for bragging rights.

I like your avatar Raven Squad, it is quite adorable.

It'd be nice to have a Trophy Room in Home. You know, like what they advertised long before Home was released. So much for that.

You buy games just for trophies then? That's just sad.
