2. Yes you can. Use google it's not hard! It's actually easier than making a topic on a video game forum.

Answer to question 2 is Youtube something called "PS3 reflow/heatgun". Your PS3 will be fixed for a while but it's only temporary.

Or, depending on your old PS3, you can send it in to Sony to have it fixed. I got mine fixed 2 years ago (launch 60GB with backwards compat) and it hasn't had a problem since. I'm happy with it.

The saves your not going to be able to transfer. Same happen to me, it stinks. I also had a game stuck in my PS3. I wasn't going to keep it so I actually looked at some youtube videos on taking it apart to get my game out. Thats the only way I knew of and it worked

Wow this is horrible. My PS3 is the backwards compatible 80GB MGS4 bundle model. I just picked up a new slim and I cant believe there is no way to transfer data over. Holy hell.

Thanks for the info, if you do a reflow fix you can restore the unit temporary and backup your data with an external HDD.

With a 100% mark-up and additional proprietary accessory required to transfer files, that's the least it can do:|

To get the game out, just unplug the system and switch it off in the back. Replug, switch it back on into standby and then hold down eject for like 30 seconds. The fan will kick on and it will eject your game, that's how I got out my Arkham City. Thanks to Sony's piss poor hardware, I refuse to reward them for making a bad product by buying another one.

You can do it yourself with a heat gun, handy work, and thermal paste but if you wanna pay $70 to get it back, you can go to gophermods.com They admit that it is temporary (mine lasted 7 months after), but if you really want your saves, you can do that.

why does everyone claim its the old fat models that get the ylod? i've had 2 friends so far with slim models who've gotten it within the first year, checked online to find they recalled a lot of the slim's cause of this issue, i think you'll are sadly mistaken.. its the slim ps3's which are prone to this problem, all my friends with old fat 80 gigs have yet to have it happen, mine is well over 5 years old, got it when they first released, not one single issue yet say for the occasional freeze if i play for too many hours at a time and even thats rare..

Happened to me too, you can also use a flashdrive to extract your game files. I didn't possess an external HDD, and I found it pretty quick.

"Why does everyone claim its the old fat models that get the ylod?"..... Because they are way more prone to get ylod. Sony have improved the ps3s throughout the years and they have been getting more durable and more efficient. Just because your fat 80gb ps3 is still working doesn't mean that the fat ps3s are more durable. Statistics say otherwise and Sony knows what they are doing when they are improving their models over their launch systems.

The video and hair dryer method worked for me. Thank god. Got my game out and transferred all my data.....would have sucked to lose all those files.
