I'm about to go pick up a new slim PS3 today, my MGS3 80GB model just got YLOD. 2 questions though. How do I carry over my saved games, and how do I get the game out thats in my broken ps3?

Answer to question 2 is Youtube something called "PS3 reflow/heatgun". Your PS3 will be fixed for a while but it's only temporary.
Wow this is horrible. My PS3 is the backwards compatible 80GB MGS4 bundle model. I just picked up a new slim and I cant believe there is no way to transfer data over. Holy hell.AdamPA1006
Thanks for the info, if you do a reflow fix you can restore the unit temporary and backup your data with an external HDD.
why does everyone claim its the old fat models that get the ylod? i've had 2 friends so far with slim models who've gotten it within the first year, checked online to find they recalled a lot of the slim's cause of this issue, i think you'll are sadly mistaken.. its the slim ps3's which are prone to this problem, all my friends with old fat 80 gigs have yet to have it happen, mine is well over 5 years old, got it when they first released, not one single issue yet say for the occasional freeze if i play for too many hours at a time and even thats rare..
Happened to me too, you can also use a flashdrive to extract your game files. I didn't possess an external HDD, and I found it pretty quick.

"Why does everyone claim its the old fat models that get the ylod?"..... Because they are way more prone to get ylod. Sony have improved the ps3s throughout the years and they have been getting more durable and more efficient. Just because your fat 80gb ps3 is still working doesn't mean that the fat ps3s are more durable. Statistics say otherwise and Sony knows what they are doing when they are improving their models over their launch systems.
