UK PS3 Backwards compatiblity.

OK, I've decided I will get a PS3 on one condition... They've added backwards compatablity. The last I had heard, it was removed for the UK's 40gig version. If thats the case there isn't much point spending all that money for Final Fantasy XIII and GT5.

Is it like the 360 were only certain titles work? If so, these are the games I want.

The 40 gig ps3 has no backwards compatibility...the 80 gig has 80-85% i belive,but the 60gig has 95% backwards compatibility.

If you can i would think about getting a used 60gig model..

I have the 60gb launch PS3, it has limited BC, but a large % of ps2/ps games are supported, theres a list on the net somewhere, i would have looked and pasted the link but firefox doesnt let me.

Inthe 60gb version BC is done through software emulation(like the 360) which means some BC games will have problems, the official list describes any problems a game may have, Sony took out the emotion chip from E.U ps3's to save money on production costs, but they didnt transfer those saved costs into a smaller price for us, which was annoying.

The 40gb model has no BC at all for ps2 games am not sure about ps1 games.

Im unsure on wheter they still have the 60gb model for sale in the uk, im not sure on this but i read there would only be 40gb model after all the 60gb sold out if thats true ebay is probably your best bet to get a second hand 60gb.

All PS3's play PS1 games. 40GB included. The only reason that this system doesn't support PS2 games as well is because it doesn't have a PS2 graphics chip (even PS2 emulation in the 80GB and EU 60GB model isn't pure software emulation...). Because PS1 can be done in pure software, the feature was left in.
