UMD condition?

I've always pondered about this, to how UMDs are treated. You'd think it's impossible to even get a scratch on the disc, let alone dust - considering it's almost all protected. I don't understand how you can even damage the disc, yet on Ebay for instance, most of the UMDs aren't in good condition? :?

I treat all my electronics/belongings great, so the condition of my UMDs are like it's brand new.WSGRandomPerson

They are surprisingly fragile for discs encased entirely in a plastic shell. All of mine are covered in dust and I actually have some scratches on a couple of them(which never happens with discs for me).

UMD drives are also super fragile apparently. My 2000 I got the day it launched has had a busted disc drive for a good year and a half.

sometimes people are just careless with umds.....I dont know how though. EVERY one of my UMDs, DVDs, and CDs is in the exact condition I bought it. all the games that I've bought new, the discs are still flawless. If you handle UMDs carefully and keep them in a case when not in use, they should should stay mint.

The original casing is poorly designed, in my opinion. There is the clear plastic window that is a sperate piece of plastic attatched to white plastic of the rest of the case. If find this frequently comes appart and you really gotta fiddle w/ it sometimes to get it working in the UMD drive. I dunno... I am not super careful w/ my UMDs but I do keep 'em in a case w/ my PSP when I travel and over time some of them get knocked about enough to cause trouble. I will say though that I have had basically zero problems w/ scratches and fingerprints, just the cases coming apart. The replacements you get which are solid clear plastic are much more sturdy.

I always thought UMDs seemed really nifty but ultimately I am glad the Vita is going to cartridges. They are more expensive but more durable and you don't bug the guy sitting next to you w/ the sound of the drive spinning.
