How many people use umds with their psp. I am thinking about getting a psp but I would like to use if for gaming as well as watching movies. are the umds worth it. I mean , it looks like alot of store dont carry that many of them. Why is that. Also some online store look like the are clearancing them out. And some are just high in price.

NO!!  Get a memory stick.  Or two, and put movies on that then switch them out.  Though each only holds max 4gb, it's not like you need to tote your entire dvd collection around and for the price of a couple UMDs you could get a 2gb stick easily.  4's run at 40 bucks online.

Using that method of compression movies are generally 300 Mb range, so about 12 on a 4Gb.

UMDs aren't really worth it. When i want a movie i just go in my DVD collection, pick one, rip it like the videos and put it on my 2Gig. Only watch them on road trips though.

Make sure that you don't buy a fake memory card off of the internet. Make sure it is a trusted buyer.

There are 8gb cards out too...which means you could hold 24 movies ;) $170-$200 price range is a little steep though... You'd be better off buying like 3 or 4 4gb cards for that price.

Sony put in the PSP a firmware code to prevent us playing movie from the memory stick in full resolution (480 x 272) therefore the converted movies do not look good with lower resolution (typically at 320 x 240).

IfyoucangetgooddealonUMDmovieslikethissales ($4.99 for select movies at Gamestop) then get them:

What are you talking about? Best Buy has a section for PSP movies. There are some recent DVD releases that were also available in UMD. The problem is that they are highly expensive. They need to drop the price on them. Gamestop had a deal on UMD at $5 a pop a few weeks ago. It was a perfect time to stack up on UMDs.

I had a nice little collection of UMD movies but then got a portable DVD player. I don't travel much but when I do, that goes with me. I traded all but two of my UMDs last year since I had all the movies on DVD but I did pick up2 anime and the Ali G show (seasons 1 & 2) for cheap from Gamestop. (Cheaper than DVDs anyways)

I got Casino Royale last week and it is stunning on UMD, plus you can pick up lots of older films really cheap in stores and online. Everyone knows UMD movies don't have a huge future, but they make good cheap entertainment when you know where to look
