Can I just say Ive came back to Sony after playing Wii for the last 3 years having owned both ps1 and ps2 however ps3 was always out my price range. managed to get a free one with my new mobile contract for a good deal.

Ive been scanning the reviews and forums to find the best games for PS3 and have managed to pick up up MW2, GTA, MGS, Burnout, Batman, Fifa 10, Resi Evil, AC2 & after much reading Uncharted 2. I decided to stick to playing one game at a time until Id finished it and started with Uncharted and finished it yersterday. Now all the reviews say its the game of the year and like and while I found it good, towards the end it became a bit of a slog to finish. To me great games are Street Fighter 2 for SNES, MGS for PS1 & MGS for PS2. I dont think Uncharted came close to any of these games and found it to be slightly overrated. Hide behind a wall, sneak out, shoot repeat! Dont get me wrong the graphics are incredible, just not the experience I was expecting.

And on that note which game should i start next? thinking gta as Ive been dieing to playing it for 2 years!

obviously not everyone will like a certain game. to many, many people, including myself, uncharted 2 is a very good game. obviously it isnt your type of game.

if you like gta and have been dying for gtaiv for a while, then get it. seeing as though you enjoyed the previous mgs games, then get number 4 as well. by the time your done with gtaiv and mgs4, games like gow3, ffxiii and gt5 etc. will come out (if you like those sort of games).

I agree with this guy. Also, this belongs in your blog. Too many people post about games they dislike, and reasons why they hate a certain game. Those are all personal opinion stories, not something that can spark a good conversation. Uncharted 2 was an excellent game, and I would score it a 10/10 any day of the week. That being said, many people will disagree, and I will disagree with them on perhaps another title. It's all a matter of opinion.

What's so not great about Uncharted? It is also about a matter of opinion. I agree that Street Fighter 2 is a great game but that is overrated. Just because it was the first to do well what no one else could at the time, people hail it as being the best. I would rather play Mortal Kombat or Killer Instinct myself.

The story was great and no other videogame comes close in voice acting. Not only did the game have a 12 or so hour singleplayer but also a not half bad multiplayer. Most games that feature both usually have some kind of half baked singleplyer that is like 4 hours and the story is finished just as it gets started. There are bonuses to earn and treasures to find, which means you will need to play the game several times to earn everything. If you disliked Uncharted that much, then you will be hard pressed to find a better with as much diversity as that one. There are definitely other cool games but Uncharted 2 edges them out a good bit. Either stop expecting the moon or go back to your Wii.

So, which is it?
and by the way youre both wrong javman05
It's called opinion. You did come in asking for people's opinions, some people will not always answer with opinions that are necessarily the same as yours. That being said, MGS4 is a great game. Since you also enjoyed the Street Fighter games, I would say you may just enjoy Street Fighter 4, or just wait for Super Street Fighter 4.

Well you obviously like the wii, i hate it.

Uncharted 2 is overrated. The duck and cover system is sloppy. Gears of War makes a joke of it.

You might have a valid opinion exept for the fact that Uncharted is more than just duck and covering. How is it sloppy? All you have to do is push Circle next to something and goes right to it. Granted while running your butt off you might occasionally stick to something you didn't mean to but that also happens in Gears of War as well.

i personally loved Uncharted 2, the single player was the best i've played in a very long time, amazing graphics, fantasic voiceovers, and gameplay thats just as good as COD, probably even better, and the online is just as amazing, as it retains everything from the single player experience, thats why this game got GOTY on 2 different occasions, from X-Play and the VGA awards

Everybody has opinions. I'm a fan of U2, you're not, you're a fan of the Wii, I'm not. And I recommend inFAMOUS, great game. I got a 9.0 on Gamespot if you like to go by reviews. But inFAMOUS is really fun to play and comes with a great story too.

I also didn't like UC2 as much as others did. I'll just modify your summary of it: Hide and shoot -> climb stuff -> repeat. I quickly sold my copy on ebay to recoup as much as the prices as possible and used the money to buy Fallout 3: GOTY, which I consider to be a much better game. I also liked Valkyria Chonicles, The Orange Box and Arkham Asylum better.

That's your problem right there. You don't have to just hide behind a wall and shoot. There are so many different ways of handling a situation, yet so many people just sit behind a wall and complain about it. Try moving a little! Hopefully Naughty Dog make more destructable cover in the next one.

I'm sad you didn't enjoy it as much as some of us did. :?

It's my personal game of the gen so far, I just thought the single-player was terrific. I suppose you're not into platforming third-person shooters then.

On what game to play next, I would go with Batman: AA. It's a pretty fun game, although I wish it was a bit longer.

The TC asked "What's the big deal?"

Most of the responses are basically - "how dare you ask that."

Also - the tc is right about one thing - he can post this wherever he wants as long as it doesn't violate the tos.

No one has a problem with his not liking the game, but not liking it based on false perceptions of the game is another thing. The game is more than duck and shoot. Yes that mechanic is used quite a bit but he makes it out like that was the whole game when there is so much more like the physical combat, exploration to find treasures, some sections were almost running and gunning like in the village with non english speaking people, the vehicle sections with jumping truck to truck.

Any game can be boiled down to "alll you do is X Y and Z. Street Fighter all you do is fight and each character only has 3 moves tops. In Metal Gear all you do is sneak arond and strangle people for the most part. If you get caught, you are rather dead. In Gran Turismo all you do is race different cars. If your going to not like a game, you have to give us more than all you do is insert whatever here.

well to be fair, anytime anyone makes a thread about why they dont get a ps3 exclusive they get attacked. Sometimes people just want to know what they are missing that everyone else sees. Like for instance, im not a huge fan of demons souls, I think its just a competent game in a rare genre for console. (hack and slash rpg)

Yes because SF2, MGS, MGS2 should win 2009 game of the year :S Try telling us what you think was better this year. It's hard to compare games years and years apart.

If you found Uncharted 2 game play repetitive, you might find GTA 4 the same. All you do is go around and kill people who your contacts want dead, and there isn't much variety in killing your targets. Batman or MGS4 might be more up your alley if you want variety. I personally liked Uncharted 2.

I thought it had some great set pieces and generally non stop action that made it a great game, one of the best I've played.

"Hide behind a wall, sneak out, shoot repeat!" If you break down anything like that, it's gonna sound stupid. That's a terrible complaint. I don't mind you having beef with it (even though I don't get the mindset to shout it on the forums) but have a better argument.

It kind of reminded me of the old Indiana Jones games I used to play on my PC, except the puzzle elements were too easy for my liking and the conflict was kind of uninspiring. I felt like I was playing an eight hour movie (or however short it was) with a few gun fights thrown in to remind me I was playing a game. I can tell there was a lot of effort put into the game and I can understand why some people love it, but for me the gameplay was just...bland. I beat it once and have no motivation to touch it again.

Exactly my point, Every game is repetitive to a degree.U2 has a lot of elements in thegame. If he didn't like that, then I don't know what games he would like.

All the different environments they had too. From jungles tosnow caverns to trains, No other action game has as many differentplaces to explore. You have those guardian things too and they were tough without the crossbow. Different guns makeyou thinkdifferently about how to approach the situation. I mean, yeah if all you do is play the game in duck andcover mode and use the same 3 or 4 weapons, the gamecould get boring for sure. If you mix it up and actually use all that there is, then you can hardly say the game is just duck shoot and climb.

Exactly he boiled the game down to a simple formula, but it is hardly just hiding and shooting. The only things that were iffy was the stealth in chapter 2 on certain parts and sometimes the camera was annoying and I couldn't tell where the ladders were somewhat. You have a more varied enemy list with the guys with the shield and the heavy armored guys where you need to shoot their helmets off to get them and the mini gun fat guys. The multiplayer has every game mode known to man in it. I have only played through the single player 1.25 times and I have wasted 18 hours or more just in the story. This guy's expectations are way too high if you ask me.

You have a stack of games like that but could not afford a console? But MGS4 is amazing if you like the series, GTA4 is full of the same old stuff.

It's really a game you play for just the story. Like the first one. You want a fun game get saints row 2.

The big deal is it's the best single player game of this console generation and has excellent multiplayer as well. Hope that clears it up for you.

As for those upset by the defensive responses - whenever someone posts a thread with a game title and "what's the big deal" it usually means they are more interested in stating their own dissenting opinion than hearing what others have to say. And in my own experience the poster never changes their opinion about the game, they weren't looking to be convinced, they were looking to **** It does seem like this poster is not in that camp though and just has different taste in games, and simpy may not like Uncharted. Different strokes and all. For example, I have absolutely ZERO interest in any Street Fighter games and don't dig MGS at all, so there you go. I don't really see how what anyone has to say in this forum is going to change his opinion, though.

its not for everyone. i think its probably the best game to hit any console in the last 3-4 years.(yes even better than MGS 4, that was a given anyway)

managed to afford those games because for some reason the uk is seeing some crazy prices for games, you just need to know where to look

mw2 £25

batman £20

Uncharted £30

Burnout £10

RE5 £14

MGS & GTA £14 each

Apologies if I offended anyone but its just that after reading so many stellar reviews was ecpecting a bit more. Dont feel that it has any great replay value and found the online not to be too great. Again i dont feel that it was the console defining game i expected (again like Metal Gear was for ps1) Please dont think im a sony basher, ive had all the consoles and handhelds and it isnt that i didnt like the game just dont feel it deserved the ten out of ten its been getting
