I am a huge fan of Uncharted 1 and 2. But for some reason, I just am not feeling it with 3. Is it just me? Am I exagerrating? I am almost 3 hours in (and it says 41% already!?) to the game, and it certainly has some beautiful graphics and epic moments, but seems to be bogged down by framerate issues, too much aim assist when blindfiring, and stupid AI. IDK, I wish I was a bit more enthusiastic about the title, but I just dont feel like playing it, which is strange given how much I loved 2.

haha I dont follow that, I only see what is done on IGN and GS. I think it MUST have to do with the different/smaller team this time around. IDK, cause it definitely is not as polished as Uncharted 2. Huh...well thanks for your opinion :P.

The game did have some bad pacing. I wouldn't really say I found it boring, but more so that it felt like the game was just forcing too much action down my throat, as well as having too many set pieces, to the point where I was actually getting sick of it.

This is how I feel, defnitely! And games that do stuff like this, begin to feel like its just a jumble of stuff. Son of a gun, when will devs learn? I loved Skyward Sword, but where are the towns and relaxing atmosphere to to stuff in? Same applies here, but in a bit of a different way :P. I dont want nonstop action. My favorite part of Uncharted 3 so far is the puzzle before the spiders come out.

Yea, I agree the pacing wasn't too great. The game did feel like it became an action whore. Some of the gun fights were also a bit frustrating and felt borderline cheap. I must've died like 10x more than I did in uncharted 1 or 2. Some of the special effects were awesome. I wasn't really feeling number 3. The wow factor was definitely missing, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. You never really either get to find out what happens to Chloe and that other guy... forgot his name.

Lol, you should have seen the look on my face after 3 hours of playing on hard difiiculty during my 1st playthrough. I recently download U1 demo and found U1 way more interesting than U3. U3 has all of the familiar elements of the franchise with improved melee and 'toss back enemy grenades addition', but the lack of a consistent gaming world like U1 and U2 and constant platforming with minimum action during the 1st 11 chapters, makes U3 feel like a spinoff or expansion instead of a true sequel. If U3 was DLC, I wouldn't be complaining. But to charge $60 at launch is ludricrous. I should have kown something was fishy when the beta was strictly MP.

u seem surprised.. what did u expect? mp was added in this sequel.. welcome to the gaming age where multiplayer must be shoehorned into every single fps regardless if it belongs, takes away, or destroy's the entire concept of a game series, ain't it wonderful??? and this is the result.

Then there's only one explanation of how I played MP in the 2nd Uncharted... Aliens, Ancient Aliens!

But seriously, maybe they just ran out of ideas and that's why they're going to The Last of Us now, to take some time off of Uncharted (Ubisoft needs to do this with Assassin's Creed) and really deliver another excellent game in the series (granted, I thought the 1st one had rather horrible pacing, but that's just me). Though, from the beta of the U3 MP, I must admit I was very disappointed by it, and with a smaller team behind this game than the last (plus the added focus/hype for the MP) I kind of have to agree that this time the MP may have detracted a bit from the SP.

However, the reason it's not really getting many awards is probably due to the fact that once you reach the third game in a series in such a short amount of time it is difficult to actually make it substantially better (again, Assassin's Creed).

that is what i feel too. so much action goes on the screen and it sometimes gets cheesy. i mean it gets ridiculous and totally unrealistic.

**spoiler**

during the ship part, the ship was sinking and getting water like hell but there are still three snipers above me, three normal dudes on the ground and two heavy armored guys. are you kidding me? that part should have consisted only escaping. it is the same for the plane part. we are going down but they are still shooting at me. like i said something about their moms.

**spoiler**

uncharted 2 was way better and way more aggregated.

omg i know right!? that part was so obsurd it was just plain silly.. like they just didn't have anything better to do, say lets not consider escaping lets just keep shooting.. i know its a game not a movie but wtf... UNREALISTIC! to the point of flat out stupid.. there are honestly so many peevs i have about this game there simply isn't enough typing space to name it all.. uncharted 3 was a let down, a disapointing let down.. and thats putting it nicely.

My main gripe was about the lack of humor. Uncharted 2 was way more enjoyable even during its slow parts because it was still funny. Flynn and Drake made the beginning awesome even though its the tutorial part. The tutorial part in Uncharted 3 is a pain because all you can do is walk slow. Had there been more stuff to do I'd go easy on it.

At least for me I kinda expected the game to not be as impactful based on my experience with the Jak and Daxter games. My favorite one from there was Jak II and I was soooo hyped for the third game but the third game crammed in so much stuff it lost its focus. If they make a movie out of this franchise they better research Among Theives the most.

Last Monday I got my PS3 and Uncharted 2 (already beat and loved 1) is one of the games I got. I am glad I read this thread. I will be sure to wait to get Uncharted 3 until it is $19.99-$29.99.

Its definitely not a 10 like IGN said, but as I did say later on, I am enjoying it far more now than I was in the beginning, so I highly suggest getting it, just dont be in any rush IMO :P.

Yes, U2 had MP AND it was quite a bit longer than the original... As far as 3 goes, I definitely enjoyed the first and second games more. A lot of people are saying there are more set pieces in 3 but I don't really agree. I would say they weren't nearly as good though. Oh well, each person has a different opinion. U2 and U3 multiplayer have been some of the most fun I have had in a long time compared to other generic military shooters.

Same thing here. Although UC3 is certainly still an enjoyable game there were still a few things that was missing that UC2 almost perfect. The pacing in UC3 certainly felt a off and I thought all the characters weren't really as embraced as much compared to UC2. I mean it seems like they just dismissed the whole relationship between Drake and Elena almost completely for example. The main villians Katherine & Talbot only showed up in a couple of scenes and there were really no incentive to hate them because we barely get to see them! Despite these flaws I thought they did the relationship between Drake and Sully right. Learning about Drake's past was really interesting but it seems like they totally ditched the story halfway through the game in place for set pieces. I know it seems like I'm ranting a lot, maybe it is because UC2 set the bar too high.

The pacing does feel smoother in AT. They stick all the slow moments in the 1st half of DD but it picks up hugely for the 2nd half. I haven't finished it but so far set pieces, hand to hand combat, puzzles are better in DD and there's little things like grenade throwbacks, shooting while climbing etc. Co-op is much better than AT. I think it's a better overall product than AT just not necessarily the better campaign. AT --> DD could never be as major as the leap from DF --> AT. It'd be interesting to read impressions if Deception were the 2nd game and Among Thieves the 3rd game.

which probably explains why this game never won any GOTY awards, and UC2 won countless amounts of those awards

killerband55

People were BLIND back then - and so was I. Uncharted's gameplay is just not fun - if it's b/c of the gunplay with the bullet-sponge enemies, the hand-holding platforming, or the overall linearity of the game. Why we play uncharted is for its story. Period. I think it was good that uncharted 2 won GOTY awards when it did, b/c it deserved it. But, ahead of time, I already knew it coudn't do the same thing with the same formula, because what surprised people about uncharted 2 a while back was the cinematic presentation and story. Uncharted 3 is probably the best in the series, and it's story started off very strong - but the middle part was just boring, because there was no plot (i.e.: that piece of interesting story bit) to move you forward - just the generic gameplay coated in absolutely stunning visuals. That just goes to show how UC is so reliant on plot and cinematics to keep the player hooked, not its gameplay. If you're like me, playing any UC game twice is a chore - just because the best part about the game - ie, its story - is already revealed to the player in the first play-through.

You can read my full rant here. My view might have changed somewhat, but ultimately UC is good for the face of video games - even though it doesn't move gameplay forward...at all.

Totally agree there. There was nothing more frustrating in Uncharted 2 when enemies accurately kept throwing grenades at you, forcing you out of cover and with a great risk of dying because of it, so being able to throw grenades back is a welcome addition to the gameplay in Uncharted 3.

I was slightly dissapointed after my first playthrough, but I decided to go back and playthrough it again and it ended up being my favourite of the series. I enjoyed it so much on my second playthrough that I ended up beating for a third time in a month.

It's now my favourite game of all time. Right up there with Uncharted 2, Resident Evil 4 andHitman Blood Money.

I can understand this, being more than halfway in now. I thought I might end up feeling the same way now, since I am really enjoying it right now and that will likely make me appreciate the beginning and knowing that I am going to get to these awesome parts.

My take so far is this:

AI - a pit strange sometimes

Framerate - dips sometimes (anyone who says it doesnt needs to have their eyes checked :P)

controls - PLEASE nerf the auto aim blindfire

Puzzles - best yet. I am so glad they reall upped their game with this

Story - so far its much more unique and very well done.

Gameplay - does everything need to break when drake jumps on it? lol I think they need to do some revamping to the platforming next time. Make stuff actually grumble over time, so you feel rushed. Make some spots climbable, and some cracked and you will die if you try. IDK, they just need a bit of an overhaul here, but its still good.

so far I am thinking 9, but could change either way.

I just have to stress how much better Uncharted 3 gets as you go. WOW it is SO much better than it was in the beginning. I am really enjoying it and some of the firefights are the best I have had in the series. They really keep you on your toes. My small complaints still stand, but this is definitely at least a 9.0.

The game does get better as you go. Like you said... I actually appreciate the beginning more now that I have finished the game multiple times.

I esp love how they didn't make the ending go on forever like in Uncharted 2. Uncharted 3 ended exactly where I felt it should. Most games tend to wear out their welcome around the end but this one didn't do that to me. For once.

Strange. In my case, the frame rate was a solid 30 for nearly the entire game. Very few parts had slow downs, and those small dips (2-5 frame drops) were hardly enough for me to use frame rate as a legitimate complaint against Uncharted 3. I might have raised an eyebrow had the frame dropped that low throughout an entire level, but I only remember it slowing down a bit during the burning building part, in France. By the way, I think it's entirely possible for someone to have frame rate issues only specific to their PS3. I know I had some with a game (Ninja Gaiden Sigma) that supposed to run at 60fps. Formatting my ps3 fixed the problem, somehow.

Huh, you COULD be right I guess, but I still think most people are overlooking it :P. Just as some people on here said Infamous 1 had no framerate issues. I dont buy that for a second. Uncharted 3 was never unplayable, but it definitely had its moments where you could notice it stuttering.

UPDATE: I think I would put Uncharted 3 as the second best game this year (yet to play Skyrim, Batman Arkham City, Xenoblade, and 3DS titles). It is behind Portal 2, but better than Skyward Sword and Battlefield 3 (desite BF3 being awesome, it has too many issues as a whole package).

This is exactly how I have felt about all of the Uncharted games. I have bought all of them on launch day (and I'm guessing I'm one of the few since the first Uncharted was somewhat unknown), and each game I thought was just good my first play through, but with each game the more I beat it the more I loved it.

I don't know why that is, especially since I rarely beat games multiple times. It seems like the first time I play an uncharted game, it is a little bit trial and error. The more I play it though, the more I know each level and it opens up possibilities for each section, except the platforming since that is obviously very linear. Just my experience though.

I feel this way mostly about 3. I love them all, but I must say 3 really blew me away after being about a 3rd in, and I can see that replaying it will be a lot of fun. There are some very open (if you please) firefights that are a blast.
