I thought we already had this render target comparison stuff with Uncharted.
First of all, please don't compare professionally taken screenshots from a beta or maybe even alpha build with blurry selfmade cam shots from a display. Everyone should see that on the left side are direct feed screenshots and on the right are blurry cam shots.
Second, there wasn't never some sort of target render in the way most people seem to think, like it is with Killzone and Motorstorm. But on the other side, Naughty Dog is still making those direct feed screenshots in super high def with full AA just for promotion reasons and press related stuff, not just at that E3 show some years ago.
For those two other games:
the developers have decided to make a cgi movie which should show what might be possibel, what can be possible, what should they achieve with the performance prediction at that time and what we users should expect.
Those very first shots and movies from Uncharted are based on a real time engine, were someone really could control/play that guy in real time(no matter if it was running on a power pc with a ppe and a sli 6800 and then rendered for the show or a dev tool or even a PS3 later on when it was available).
For me, there is no sense in discussing wether they could achieve anything when looking at those material, because the first shots are just earlier builds on which they have worked till today. The result can be seen on the right side. Or would you say, that if Drake has now black hair (just example, doesn't need to be true), this would mean that they could not achieve the target render because he first had brown hair?
Your comparing the pre production product with an almost final build while you mean the concept render or concept art(target render) and the almost final build.
Come on, a target render isn't called just for fun a render because it's somehow prerendered not to mention target here.
That just doesn't work if this old build was the TARGET they want to achieve somedaywhen it is a work in progress build!!!
Yes, they worked on the build and graphics and improved it, no doubt, but talking about target render is something totally different.
In 2006 the Texture of the grass was great !
In 2007 the Light effect changed to better and also the shadow became better .
Hint : In 2006 the details of the texture of everything was clear . The rendering with the light changed the details of the texture and gave the look like ( there is a life ) in the game. look at the leaves between the two 2006and7, the reflection of the lights in 2007 has been better .
