Recently, my friend notified me that unplugging my PS3 slim when I'm not using it (and in standby mode) will result in YLOD. Is this true? The reason why I unplug my PS3 is so that I don't waste electricity even though the only energy used is by the standby mode red light. What is the proper way to turn off your PS3? Am I suppose to leave it plugged in?

unplugging it wont do a thing. unless you're currently using it then it *may* cause an issue with data. I just leave mine plugged in 24/7 though so I just push the button on the controller to turn it on.

I thought all electronic appliances took damage if they were on and you just jerked the plug out before turning them off.

Unplugging on standby mode (red light) won't damage anything. But unplugging it during gameplay, occasional hangs, or firware update is another story. :D
