So I was in the middle of browsing the web with two windows open the browser started to act funny. I then tried to close the window that had caused the problem only to find that my PlayStation had froze. I'm still getting used to my PS3 so I wasn't sure what to do and I held the power button until it turned off. When I rebooted the PS3 I was given a message that the console was improperly shut down and that doing so could cause damage to the system or corrupt data. What are the chances that I damaged the system when I did this? What kind of damage could I have caused?

Thanks

Not too sure...but I can tell you that this has happened to me a few times when my ps3 has stalled. I don't seem to have lost anything yet. I think a lot of ppl have seen this error if/when their system has stalled.

if you can, just try to hold the reset button for as long as possible. and if that doesn't work then i would resort to the power switch in the back, but only as a last resort.

Yeah, mine seems okay too, and since I don't plan on making a habit of it I think I'm okay, just a bit OCD about that $250 piece of equipment sitting on my shelf. Thanks.

And I did use the reset button so no worries there either. Thank you.

It could have been a web site hadn't completely loaded. I have had PC's do the same thing from time to time (had my laptop do the same thing a couple times a few days ago). I really don't use the PS3 to surf the web anyway because the browser isn't near as fast as a PC.

It is just a warning really and you should not worry. The only thing you need to do is to only switch it off, from the back, as a last resort. If anything is lost, the system restores itself to bring back everything, this has happened to me numerous times from unsafe shutdown.
