What are the particulars I should look for in a replacement PS3 hard drive?

Can you transfer data?

You can transfer stuff if you also have an external USB hard drive. You backup the drive in the PS3 to the external drive, swap the drives in the PS3 and then restore what's on the external to the new drive in the PS3.

NOT true. you can buy a 7200 rpm Hard drive that will give you about 10-15% better load times.

I heard it voids the warranty by swapping it out.

For those who have done it, ant specific ones on sale I should know about?

It doesn't. They made it so you can take it out, and they even give you instructions how to do it.

I think it is better if you get a 5400rpm drive because that is what the original one is - so a 7200rpm could overheat or something. I dunno...
