I currently have a 20GB PS3 that I am thinking about upgrading. I have read a few tutorials on how do to this and I have a couple of questions in regards to the Hard Drive itself. I have an old computer that broke down not to long ago that has a Hard Drive that I would like to use for my PS3's Hard Drive. Its specs are:

WD Protege - 40GB - 5200RPM

Or you can click on the link below and look at the 40G Hard Drive specifications.

http://www.wdc.com/en/library/eide/2879-001017.pdf

Anyways, the hard drive that I am thinking about using is clearly not top of the line. This has me concerned if its worth using or not (will I notice a slow down in performance??).

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I agree with the previous poster. The PS3 uses 2.5" SATA hard drives, so the one you are mentioning will not work.

Sorry dude your hard disk is

1) Slower than the default PS3 HDD

2) Bigger than the normal PS3 HDD

So it wont work.If you are a computer genius theres a method of connecting it externally and i cant teach you that unless and until i make proper tutorials vids.

When you are updating the ps3 harddrive you want to go big. Because why go through the trouble and only go for 20 more gigs. The best deal is i saw so far for a harddrive was on newegg.com it has a 320 gig 5400 rpm 2.5 sata notebook and that is the exact specs you need to upgrade. You want 5400 rpm that the same speed as the drive you have now and it must be 2.5 inch notebook to fit. It has great reviews no cons and its very quiet I'm ordering mine as we speak because I have a 60 gig with only 13 gbs left. So once you install it you will have about 293 gbs left due to the space that you will use to operate the system but that is still like 4 and a half 60 gb systems of space or more. Thats if you put all your back up stuff on the new drive. So go to the site it only cost 89.99 with free shipping.

For christ's sake. Kids, it's not hard changing out the PS3 HDD. It's as easy as cutting a piece of cake.

That hardrive has an enclosure for free also. Check under bundle deals and select the enclosure.
