From wikipedia:
There are two different definitions of gigabyte in general use:
so even if it shows the wrong amount of gigs do you still ge the correct ammount of space?Esgabaldonno once you install your new HDD look up your disk space in your system info option in the XMB. what it tells you is what you actualy have. on mine like i said i have a 320 gig HDD ps3 says its a 298 gig. with 259 gigs free.
just dont be suprised when you get a big HDD and check you actaul space. it will be less than advertised. it has something to do with the way thay calculate Gigs ect. the larger the HDD the bigger the deffernce between advertised GIGs and actual gigs. my 320 actualy has 290 something gigs lol. Every hard drive is like that though. Even on PCs
[QUOTE="Esgabaldon"]Anyone know any good hard drives that will work with the ps3?Wild_Cardi just installed a 320 gig western digital HDD. works great and WD is secound to none for hDD's. you can buy them on newegg.com and tigerdirect.com for about 110.00$. If you mean this one, I bet it would work great! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136197
i think the reason it takes some space off the hard drive is for sonys OS(xmb)Esgabaldon
That would only occupy a fixed amount of space however. And the difference in capacity varies depending on the size of the hard drive
What emitsu97 quoted is correct. There are two different "standards" in the industry.
yes, any 2.5" laptop SATA HD will work!! WARNING!!!!! I would recommend getting a 5400 RPM HD, as that was what the PS3 was built to run, the 7200RPM runs a lot hotter and I have heard of issues [QUOTE="Wild_Card"][QUOTE="Esgabaldon"]Anyone know any good hard drives that will work with the ps3?POJO_MOFOi just installed a 320 gig western digital HDD. works great and WD is secound to none for hDD's. you can buy them on newegg.com and tigerdirect.com for about 110.00$.
