I have a 3000 and I want to upgrade to the go I think. Gamestop has a hardware deal where if you trade any system for another system you get an extra 30 dollars. Is that something I should take up? I have a few other games for it. The main reason I want to upgrade is because I don't like the disc's noise it makes when I play it, and more storage.

I would hold off on that until the available PSP games on the Playstation Store improves, right now the selection is poor, and some of the downloadable versions of games run poorly. (Silent Hill: Origins) I would get one just to play my PSone games on, but I'd actually have to redownload them, and I don't even have wireless. If I could just transfer them from my PS3 to my PSP like I can with all the other PSP models, I may have gone for it. Right now, the Go seems like a whole lot of unrealized potential.

I'm like 99.999% sure the PSP Go can hook up to a PS3.

Lol, "upgrading"...

Because a smaller screen and only the ability to store downloaded games is "better".

I have a PSP Go, so far no problems with hooking it up to my PS3. I've downloaded a lot of PS1 classics. All though I mostly use it for an mp3 player.

So wait, you CAN transfer downloaded PSone games directly from your PS3 to a PSP Go? I was reading when it came out that we couldn't do that, it was just about the one thing that kept me from getting one.

If you got the money why not. But you can also play games on the memory stick with the psp3000. Anyways, just get a go if you really are decided. It is nice and small. I wanted to get one too but most of the umd games are cheaper compared to digital copies. Plus some umd based games have limited edition which is pretty cool like Lunar. If only sony released the umd converter program...

Well, i personaly have one because i wanted to see how it was. IN fact, i reviewed it on youtube. Anywho, If you really want a Go, it's up to you. I personaly it is a fine piece of hardware that is underrated and bashed on. The smaller screen is smaller, but it looks less pixelated (sometimes smaller, doesn't mean worse). The battery life is about the same though and you'll need M2 cards if you wish to expand on it'S 16 GB internal memory. Just don't listen to people who bash on it. The only problem is its cost, of 250$ which is expensive. BTW, the bluetooth compability is a good thing/save states as well. I can recommend it to you if you are curious, but other then that, you can stick with the 3000. Still, i think Sony wasn't really aiming at hardcore gamers, but more toward casuals when they 've came up with the PSP Go. It's a nice handheld, and i suggest you get one, if you can by-pass the current flaws it has that "some" people did pointed out. "*** PSN has so much stuff that we don't have.. G-Darius anyone? Oh wait, we don't have it...."

I say GO for it.. you don't need excuses to get the system. If you have the money and want it just get it, that easy.

I personally think it would make a nice upgrade, you know, because it actually is 'Portable.' Regarding the GameStop deal, I think you would be better off selling your 3000 at some other place (craiglist, amazon, etc.), just check where you can get the bestdeal. And yeah, the extra storage is really nice, I got about 200 songs on mine, 20 short clips, a couple of pictures, and about 7 games (including one mini and2 PS1 games) and still have plenty of memory to go around (I love the fact that I don't have to carry anything around except the PSP and earphones).

It's his choice, not yours. I don't understand why you need to comment when you are not answering his question, and being so narrow-minded as to think that your opinion is the only correct choice. And while I agree with you, I don't feel the need to tell Silverpeel that their opinion is wrong.

I upgraded from a 3000 to a Go, I love it and dont regret it a bit. I agree that the selection does need to be better on the Store, but other than that, its great. And you CAN hook up the Go to the PS3. That's how I get all my DL games. And there are improvements with the Go, most just dont look into it because they're biased. The Go can connect with a PS3 controller. Which means if you plan on getting cables sometime to hook the Go up to your Tv, it could be used as a real console if you wanted. Pretty awesome. You have the option of "Pausing" your game ANYWHERE you want and continue later on. As in, turn off the PSP and continue right where you left off. The older PSP models dont have these features. So yes, the Go DOES have advantages over the other models, quit being dumb some of you. Also, no stick swapping as well. The thing already comes with 16GB, just buy a micro that is also 16GB, and you never have to buy another one. Most wouldn't anyway.

All PSP models can do that. You mean, pause the game, and access the XMB

and you can buy a 32gb memory stick, keep it there, and never swap it for another, on the other models.

So in other words, both the 1000-3000 models and the Go are currently equal in the amount of memory they can hold at one time.

I don't think there's an M2 that's greater than 16gb yet

If you think it's a good deal and don't like having the disc noises, then get the Go. I owned a PSP 3000 for a few months before selling it for the Go and am liking it so far. Just weigh the pros and cons that you have in mind and see if the deal is worth it! :)

You can connect the GO to the PS3 and transfer games/saves/media/etc. with the usb cable it comes with. I do it all the time.

*cough* more like downgra *cough* ding. jk :P Listen the go is nice and all but If I were you I'd just stick to the 3000. The Go cost an arm and a leg which isn't worth the price that it's listed and it doesn't have to many upgrades. It's just tweaks. But if you must have the go then wait til there are ALOT MORE GAMES on PSN.

I gladly stand corrected then, I must have read some bad information. I'll probably get one to play my PSone games on at some point like I had planned to do when it first came out. I have seventeen of them on my PS3 from the Playstation Store, and they look pretty bad on my HDTV, really. A super portable PSone is what it would essentially be for me, and that sounds cool.

There is a lot of bashing about the Go...but most of the time from people that never owned one. I see many posts on this forumn that say they were happy to upgrade from their old PSP to the Go, though, there are a few that didn't like the go and and switched to the 3000. I got a Go and kept my 1000 because I could afford it, obviously you are not planning on keeping the 3000. I didn't like the umd noise as well, not a big deal but for a small device it was loud, plus from my personal experience, games do load faster being from solid state rather than disk; not a huge difference but it's there. Yes, I have bought games off of the PSN that I still own on UMD and have tested the load times between the devices.

Personally I say get the Go due mainly to portability, but I do agree that you should look into a different way to sell the 3000 because even though you are offered the extra $30 it might not be the most you can get from it.

Here are my problems with the Go--as I've just recently tried one with Amazon offering it for around $200.

-It looks nice, but the construction of the unit wouldn't allow me to feel comfortable tossing it in a pocket or bag.

-16gigs of storage? That's hardly enough. For an Ipod touch that's somewhat acceptable, but for a dedicated games machine, I think not. Give me at least 64gigs. If I'm carrying a device as big as the Go, which is made to rid yourself of excess carrying cases for umds, I sure as heck don't want to have an ipod with me for music.

-I like the download service, as it is very convenient with the ipod touch, but in spending $40 dollars on a game, I need something more tangible, or more information on where I can store the game and what restrictions I have.

-The screen feels like itd get scratched. The GBA SP had it done right--the folding model for portables really works best.

64? Not sure WE ALL need that much storage. (Besides, people already complain about the price)

"a device as big as the Go,"you just compared theiPod to the Go,I have both thingsin front of me right now and they arealmost the same size.. the Gomight be bulkier, but I'm sure thathas something todo with the extra buttons, who knows..

Something tells me that when Sony decided to make the PSP more 'Portable' by eliminating the need of extra memory stick and/or UMDs and reducing the size, it wasn't so that you would be able to fit an iPod in your pocket.

-I like the download service, as it is very convenient with the ipod touch, but in spending $40 dollars on a game, I need something more tangible, or more information on where I can store the game and what restrictions I have. I agree. But let's look at the bright side, if you ever sell your system and then regret it andend up buying it again, you don't have to buy your games again.

-The screen feels like itd get scratched. The GBA SP had it done right--the folding model for portables really works best. I'm yet to test the durability of the screen.. although I already dropped it once (screen down.. ouch) and nothing happened to it. I also feel like the folding model could be better, but then you get complains about the hinge mechanism going bad.

Not trying to take sides in a pointless verbal war which nobody will ever win, but he never said that the 3000 had bluetooth. In case you misunderstood what he meant, here is my best interpretation:

In his opinion, the GO is not worth the money, because it has slight advantages (and perhaps, in the minds of some, disadvantages, such as a smaller screen) which do not justify, again in his own opinion, the price tag.

I hope that I cleared that up for you, and perhaps instead of starting a fight, we could answer the OP's question? Just a thought.

Oh I forgot about Bluetooth, how are 3000 owners going to survive without bluetooth!?

Seriously, Bluetooth is useless.

UMDs, bigger screen, cheaper price, cheaper games, more games available > Bluetooth, pause menu.

The GO is a downgrade.

Well i say the PSP Go is more of a downgrade in everything than anything. I say that because the obvious smaller stuff but mainly because if you get your psp stolen and someone gets a hold of your account and changes everything u can get hacked and cant physically stop the guy. Also since you dont like the UMD games why dont you just download the full games from the playsation store on to your psp mem card? its the same thing.

Okay, alright, great rebuttle. Now, why don't we stop the pointless debate and get back to whatever the original topic was, because I'm sure you've all forgotten. I think everyone is tired of these GO VS 3000 rants, and no matter how hard either of you try, you will never be able to persuade the other person that you are right and they are wrong. So please; do us all a favourand either shut up or leave.

...

How is it a pointless debate, I'm trying to explain to the TC that it's not an upgrade but a downgrade to go to the GO. The title is "upgrading to the GO?"

90 % of the threads on Gamespot are debates, so if you don't want to partake in them, do us all a favour and either shut up or leave.

Where as I'm trying to make sure that the OP doesn't get flooded with hate and gets information from someone that does actually own a Go.

For the Go, the smaller screen took about 5 mins to realize that it doesn't make a difference. You don't notice it.

I personally feel that the control setup is more comfortable and my thumb doesn't get sore like it did on my 1000.

Bluetooth is awesome. I use my bluetooth headset which eliminates a wire so when I'm at work at my desk, listening to music is quite enjoyable not having a wire getting in the way. I also bought a PS3 controller and a A/V cable so I can use the go as a console with a wireless controller. It may sound kind of dumb but it is so nice when you are travelling and have the comfort of playing with a nice controller on a TV. I'm not sure why people haven't caught onto Bluetooth yet; I guess I'm just a tech junky but wireless is awesome.

I agree that the pause feature is not a huge selling point but all I'm going to say is that it is very nice to have and I use it all of the time...it's there, it's nice.

As far as the screen goes, buy a screen protector. They really do work as well as last a while until you do get that one scratch that is annoying to play games through but when I take it off to replace it...look no scratch on the actual screen. I do put the Go in my pocket quite a bit and as far as damage for being in the pocket, well, I haven't had a problem. I guess I am a little concerned about lint and other pocket "stuff" could eventually find it's way into the nooks and crannies of the PSP itself but I'll just have to wait and see.

There isn't much there in what I just talked about but really when you put it all together...it's like they say for a lot of games...the Go is better than the sum of it's parts.

Wow, the 3000 now has bluetooth? That's cool.

RockinTheCasbah

Apparently his does.

He clearly said the 3000 could do ANYTHING the Go can, which includes Bluetooth. I'm not sure why you choose to overlook that. Also, if you read my earlier post, I answered the TC. Dont worry about what I post.

Maybe not everyone needs Bluetooth, but it is far from useless. Because of Bluetooth, I can play with my PS3 controller on my Tv. I rather like that. Just because you dont care about it doesn't make it useless.

Wasn't talking to you, actually. I was talking to the guy that said that his PSP must have bluetooth. But also, thank you for pointing that out, I didn't know Pony said the 3000 everything that the GO can do. He dug himself a hole there.

Silverpeel

or you could just not use UMD games and buy a bigger Memory stick. that's what I'd recommend. the psp go is a little too small and not much of an upgrade if u ask me. all it has that the psp3000 doesnt have is blutooth. and really, is that worth paying $50 more for? and i personally like having 2 memory sticks. 1 for movies, 1 for games. and i like having the option of buying cheap UMD games.

goodluck......

Okay, let's put opinions aside for a minute. Isn't the fact that someone like myself, someone who wants a psp, is having a hard time deciding on getting a Go over a 3000? You'd think a potential buyer of a product would want the newwest model, no?

Yeah, you probably would but the Gos and the 3000s will keep fighting to give you why they think which is better. If I were you I would consider all points that everyone makes and find what is better for you. I personally would say the Go is the best option but once I do that someone will respond to my post and say that the 3000 is better than the Go. It will turn into the energizer bunny like it does for every thread like this that pops up. You can search the PSP forum for many threads exactly like this and you should be able to pull out a lot of information out of all of the fighting. Sorry if it doesn't help you much but this just happens and it will never stop.

why would anyone trade in a 3000 for a Go? u lose $50 at EB games/Gamestop for doing that. because u get $100 for a 3000 u put that towards a go u dont get ur $60 back from purchasing the 3000 new so in reality ur paying $300 for a Go

Okay, so. I've made a list of pros and cons of both systems. Quote my list and add anything that you think I forgot. Here it is:

PSP 2000 - 3000

Pros:

- larger screen

- costs less

- UMDs and DLC

- larger game selection

- more sales, you can buy games used

Cons:

- bigger

- not as many new features

- does not come with a large memory stick, will cost additional money to buy one

PSP GO:

Pros:

- smaller

- many new features from the previous PSPs

- comes with a large memory stick

Cons:

- smaller

- DLC only

- game selection is not as large

- larger price tag

Now, I think that I got most of the pros and cons of both systems, and I tried to be as unbiased as possible. If you have any further thoughts on my list or points to add, feel free to do so.

PSP 2000 - 3000

Pros:

- larger screen

- costs less

- UMDs and DLC

- larger game selection

- more sales, you can buy games used

-tangible games

-sturdier construction

-you get to say, when in question of what the games are, "oh, these are umds."

Cons:

- bigger

- not as many new features

- does not come with a large memory stick, will cost additional money to buy one

-uses a disc drive for games, making its lifespan questionable.

PSP GO:

Pros:

- smaller

- many new features from the previous PSPs

- comes with a large memory stick

-higher quality screen

-no need to carry a bag full of umds

Cons:

- smaller

- DLC only

- game selection is not as large

- larger price tag

-the worry of losing all your downloaded games.

-operates by sliding the face up. Convenient, but how much of a beating can the unit take before it feels flimsy?

Now, I think that I got most of the pros and cons of both systems, and I tried to be as unbiased as possible. If you have any further thoughts on my list or points to add, feel free to do so.

Losing all of your downloaded games? Not exactly sure what you mean by this. If for some reason the game is deleted off of your PSP you can redownload it. There is no limit to redownloading a game to the same PSP.

Losing all your downloaded games as in the flash memory failing. Solid state drives aren't as reliable as some may think. I would imagine that if that were to happen, you'd have to send it in to sony for repairs, which would probably cost you the price of a 3000.

If it will cost the price of a 3000 I would rather pay a little more for a new Go.

I think you are missing the point.

Heirren

If the solid state drive goes out I'm sure the PSP will still operate on the memory stick. If the UMD drive goes out on a non Go PSP then you are stuck with a memory stick as well. I have had the UMD drive go bad on my first PSP before they really had the PSN for PSP, I was not happy but bought another 1000 soon after that. Though, by stating this I am aware that if the solid state drive does go I will lose my game saves which is why I back them up on my computer.

I guess I don't get the point you are trying to make but I am doing whatever it takes to help protect the Go in these threads because it is actually made for certain people like me and I want those people that are looking at getting a Go to not read only hate for it.
