Is it really not possible to play my games at 1080p with an HDMI cable? The game supports 1080i & 1080p and my TV is full 1080p HD, but I can't find any option to upscale the resolution. I know most games have a native 720p resolution, but honestly I want to give the 1080i/1080p a go, Arkham City awaits!

You just go into display settings on the ps3 and theres boxes for 480, 720, 1080p, 1080i. So you check the boxes for 1080p and 1080i and it will only be in 1080. I did this for mlb the show, its native is 720 but it was a bit blurry, i changed it to 1080 and it was alot more crisp.

Games look best in their native resolution, upscaling makes them look worse, because it is trying to add textures that arent there.

Alright, I've seen what you all did but there's a problem --- the box that is for 480p is dark and cannot be unchecked! Any advice on this? I tried playing Dark Souls at 1080i but it downscaled to 480p xD

u cannot uncheck 480p box, thats its defualt and will always be there. dude trust me man do not try to upscale a game that wasnt meant to run on that resolution, im not syain it will look horrible, itll still look good, but ull have a better overall picture with its native resolution

Your TV only has a single resolution. Any signal fed to your TV that does not match the native resolution will be scaled by the TV to fit the screen. PS3 has games running at resolutions ranging from near SD to some full 1080p. Most games are scaled to output 720p (unless they are full HD already). If you are given the option to output 1080p, all it's doing is scaling the image source, just like what your 1080p TV would have done with the 720p signal anyhow. Now you get to decide if you think the PS3 has a better image scaler than your TV.

So in the end...there's really no way to play Arkham City or Dark Souls at 1080p/i with an HDMI cable?
