Alright so this new update for tomorrow will let me watch normal dvd movies from my collection in full 1080p HD?  And if thats as good as i think it is wont sales of Blu-ray drop?  And if dvd's are upscaled to 1080p that means they can go to 720p aswell? becuase my tv isnt 1080p its 720p/1080i and for watching movies whats better 720p? or 1080i?

Upscaling isn't worth all the hype.  99% of the HDTVs out there upscale a 480 signal to display it anyway.  If your HDTV is halfway decent, it already does just as good a job as the PS3 will.

Plus, an upscaled DVD could never come close to looking as good as a well produced Blu-ray movie.  Upscaling doesn't magically produce detail that wasn't there before.  A 1080p Blu-ray has 6 times the resolution as a 480 DVD.
