You could almost buy a new one for that price so why take the chance with the used. Besides, it won't have that new console smell :)junglist101

a valid point my mexican friend (don't ask)
Does anyone think it would be a safer bet to buy the refurbished system on gamestop for 430, or spring 475 for a used-like new system on amazon that hasnt been refurbished?
In my experience, the PS3 is pretty solid built plus you can typically get a warranty from Amazon. Or you could wait until the new PS3 comes (the 120GB or 160GB whatever it's going to be). xeon71
60 gbs is good enough for me, I just dont know if its too risky to get a refurbished system. That means it already broke in some way, so wouldnt it have more of a chance of breaking again soon?
i bought a used 60g ps3 i wanted the bc but didn't want to spend 500 on the 80g i used it for a couple hours and it stopped reading all discs.i took it back to gamestop and they switched it for a working one. so in my opinion if you want to save money by the used gamestop 60g mine has been working fine now for monthsmarcssc
Well I dont live within 100 miles of a gamestop, so Im thinking of getting one online, is this a smart choice?

Maybe I should clarify. You most likely not be able to find a new 60 gig ps3 because they've been discontinued and are hard to find. So by saying "You could almost buy a new one for that price.." what I meant was a new ps3 in general, not specifically a 60 gig. Also who said you could get one for $430 - Please note the word almost. But if it was me and I had 430 I would probably wait until I had that 70 plus tax it would take to get a new one.
If you prefer though, take the risk and go with the used. Doesn't matter to me.
Let's be clear on something: Sony refurbishes the units. They don't take the unit and fix it, they give you a unit that's not retail packaged and more than likely has some random parts built into it from other dysfunctional units. Still, I trust it because Sony fixed it, not the guys at EB. You do realize that sony makes them, right? I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing.
Also read my blog for a tactic that's a little more time consuming and a little less expensive.
