I've bought basically nothing but used games for my Gamecube for years, without any sort of problem. The other day though, someone says, "Yeah I never buy used games; I recently found out that that's the worst thing you can do for a system."

This isn't the case for PS3, is it? My bro just bought BioShock used, and I just want to make sure it wont be messin' up muh PS3. I kinda think it wouldn't matter, but still. Better safe than sorry, am I right? :'D

Wow, so one person says something is true you have to automatically accept it? Sad. How can buying a game used ruin your system? It is no different than buying a new game and as long as it isn't smeared with dog **** then it will play exactly the same as a new game.

Wanting to double-check it doesn't mean I accepted it as fact, I just wanted to find out more. I didn't see any logical reason why it should cause any problem, but he seemed pretty adamant.

I buy used games all the time and they work just fine. Like everyone has said though just make sure they are clean. One of the pros also of having a PS3 is Blu Ray discs hold up better against scratches so used should work games are fine.

He prolly meant that if you buy a used game the video game company doesn't get any money for it. Like if you bought mgs4 used konami doesnt get a cut. Only gamestop or the store that sells used games makes money off of it. That is why people are pissed at gamestop for buying a game from you for 15 bucks and selling it back at like 54 bucks. People are saying used ps3s game tend to be a better deal since the bluray discs are scratch resistant.

Considering your comment, Atomic Punk is a fitting level for you ;-) And while I'm not sure it's what the TC's friend meant, I agree with sa10kun's interpretation. It makes sense that way.

playing used games is just like putting in a new game, taking it out and putting it back in. and yeah it is bad not for the console but for the companies. I work at an EB Games and I know what the guy before said. So if the clerk ask you if you want a used game just say no and and that you don't want any the advantages with used games. Since you want to support a dev, buy new games.

You do realize once you open up the case it's a used game right. Saying Used games screw up your system is like saying buying from Goodwill will give you cancer.

Used games suck. At least you could be decent enough to buy a new copy of the game, so developers actually make something off it.

Right. I buy used games because I hate developers and I don't want them to make any money. It doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I'm not rich.

That's okay, just make sure it's clean and scratch-free... it's practical to buy used games, just check it well... not everybody can afford new games... and some people should control their temper when answering simple questions...

By your friends logic you should only put game in the PS3 one time and beat it then throw it away. Does your friend realize that after you play the game 1 time its used.

Weird

Nope, out of 35 games 10 are used on my collection, blu ray coating makes it really difficult to scratch the games, tough I try to get them new whenever I can.

Superlink517,

Majority of the games I own are used. Why? It's because of the blu-ray disc. The coating on it is phenomenal. It's nearly scratch proof. You'd have to put it through tons of abuse just to put a scratch on it to make it not work. When you buy a used game, just request to check/inspect the disc before making a purchase. Most stores are fine with it. Normally you'll find dust or finger prints but use a cd wipe cloth to bring it to a shine. It'll be fine. I have a local game store that I get my used games from. I don't buy anything from Gamestop anymore. I don't like the way their employees treat their customers.

I normally buy my games after it has been released for 4 to 5 months. That way I get it for dirt cheap. I'm a gamer & a college student. I need to conserve money anyway I can. I may not be able to support all the Devs that I like now but when I can I will. The 2 games I'm gonna buy at full price will be Final Fantasy 13 & God of War 3. If the reviews for both games bomb horribly, I'd buy them used.

I always buy used games it savs you money from playiing full price. An example when I went too buy my ps3 MGS4 was 50 dollers new and 30 used now with that I saved 20 dollers. Don't worry about it the only time you should care is if the game is in bad shape like a blockbuster game(seems like noone cares for there stuff).

only thing i can say is used games "can" be bad for your bluray drive and ill give 2 examples, i recently bought some used ps2 games and one of them had chips and cracks on the inside ring....that could trash a drive if the cd starts to fall apart anymore. the other game i bought has water marks on it or weird circle scratches, anyways it makes my drive speed up really loud which is a bit hard on it over time so yes used games can be bad.

That's a good point because blu ray disks are a lot harder to scratch then Standard DVDs. With that being said, there's nothing wrong with buying used games. A lot of the time, people trade in new games in the wrapper, so there's a slight chance that you may get a new game in the process.

I was talking to my mate from Game (it's a game shop in Australia) and he said that he spent ten minutes going over the disk with steel wool and nothing happened except for dirt collecting on the disk. Score for polytetrafluroethylene (Teflon) coated disks.

So, let me get this straight... The guy you heard meant that it's harmful for the PS3 to play used games. Ok, now we all know Blu-rays hardly get scratched. So, wouldn't that make all of your games "used" ones? I mean, you already used them, and they won't likely be any more scratched from use, so after a few times you've played them they should be considered "used". Now think about this: saying that it's harmful for your PS3 to play used games would imply that it's harmful to use your own used games. No logic there if you ask me.

i don't think his friend was talking about a 1 day old "used' game. clearly he ment used as in physical problems like scratches, scuffs, chips, ect. and used games don't only apply to bluray disks since you can play both ps1 and ps2, unless his friend was specifically talking about ps3 games, but even if he was the former still makes a good point

and bluray disks are not invincible, im sure i could scratch one really easy if i tried. oh and one other point id like to make is that blurays are not dvd's or cd's. the whole reason they made blurays stronger is because the scratches affect blurays more!! aka if a dvd and bluray are equally scratched the bluray is less likely to read.

blurays don't really scratch, so as long as it has a good condition case and manual there is no difference between new and pre owned

I like buying used because I can return a game if it sucks. You also need to know how to work the Gamestop system so you can profit off of them. Otherwise there are other ways to sell games. I will only buy games new if they are sure things that I want.

Dont they usually sell used PS3 games for like $49 and only give you $12 credit, please enlighten me on how to work the system. Because all I can see is how they horribly rip people off.

I buy new games as much as I can, however, I don't think I should pay $60 for something that developers rushed to put out and left incomplete. If it's worth it I'll buy it new, but don't expect me to be a chump and reward people by paying $60 for a $30 game.

Unless somebody spit a giant loogie on the disc and you didn't notice when it went into the console...you might get the console dirty...maybe. A game is a game. Hell, the games in your collection are now "used", and they won't break your system if you put them in tomorrow and played.

There is nothing wrong with used games as long as they aren't trashed. Half my PS3 games are used.

no it will be fine. but when you buy the used ones, make sure they are in good condition. doesnt make sense to but a game thie is damaged anyways.
