Hey,

I have had my PS3 since Monday, and when I power down, I use the controller to turn the system off, and after 10-15 seconds or so, I switch it off from the back, and then cover it with a microfiber cloth. Is there anything wrong with switching it off?

-Thanks

dont think so. i usually use stand by... but there cant be anything wrong with cutting power entirely? i would recommend doing that, actually, if youre a college student like me who leaves for breaks over a two week period of time... saves power.

i dont think it could hurt it in any way.

I wouldn't think it would hurt anything. After all, they wouldn't have put the switch there if you could not use it.

Just as long as you don't hit the switch on the back before entering stand-by mode, you are fine.

you don't have to, most electronics today have standby mode. I leave it on standby all the time. The only time I would shut it off is if I go on vacation or something... If i switch off the back, I wouldn't be able to turn the PS3 on via the controller or via remote play from work, so standby is perfect for me :)

Why do people think that? It's not a self destruction button. Sony put it there so that you can use it.

Someone posted a recent link here that leaving it in standby or turning it off from the back won't hurt it as that's what the ps3 was designed to do. Personally I've had mine for over a year and I've only turned it off from the back a few times.

I leave mine on standby from the first time I switch it on in the day, until I go to bed- Then I switch the back off, put a folded t shirt on top of it, and then a plastic bag on top of that (dont ask, paranoia)

would shutting it off also keep air and dirt moving through the machine also? making it last longer....
