I don't have a PSP, but I am thinking about getting one because of its larger array of multimedia options. I was just wondering how many people actually use the mp3 player, buy movies, etc. for the PSP or just use it as a gaming machine? Also, I have a DS strictly for gaming, if I chose to just use the PSP as a gaming device only would it be worth it?

You can, but the browser is very limited; about the only thing I use the browser for is to check email and very occasionally to check stuff on wikipedia. No embedded video support and junk, though

I use mine for music. I have 4 UMD movies. I surf the web (what I can anyway). Oh yea, I play awsome games as well.

I bought mine for games, and that's mainly what I use it for. Considering the high-quality graphics (for a handheld) and the decent selection (IMHO) of games, I believe it's worth buying just as a gaming device, if you have the spare cash. I prefer to use other devices for media and internet surfing, for various reasons.

I use my PSP as a multimedia device. I actually use it for it's multimedia capabilities instead of using it for Games. I use it all the time as my standard MP3 player and when it comes to family occassion, I always pop the PSP on the TV and have a picture slideshow with some music. PSP never failed me. (^_^)

Sweet, another thing I was wondering, can you connect the PSP to a TV? Because if I was going to invest in some of the Movies, I would probably want to be able to watch them on a TV as well.

yes if you have an HDTV (like a 40" plasma or something) you can put a UMD in your psp and hook it up using the component cables. and it will look near DVD quality. I recently bought the latest James Bond and Ghost Rider on UMD at Circuit city for $10 (it was a buy one get one free deal) and they both look great on the PSP and output through the component cables to my roommates 40" LG HDTV.

Can't the 3000 connect to any TV?

yes psp is great..im still rocking the phat (for some obvoius reasons)..but.. i will say afew things...PSP is the only gaming platform i personally bought the most games for..idn, its just theres alot of fun games for it..some argue thiere isnt but calssics like gta, socom, mgs, mhf, manhunt, etc. are just fun. When i go on vacation i put movies on the mem stick and watch them, same goes with mp3 ( i have an ipod, and i use opod when i run or go to track meets and dont feel like bringing the psp).

As for umds, i will say they are a bit annoying. i mean its a portable system and u have to bring discs...ehh..i usually keep psp in pocket and have music, movie games in there already. However if u dont mind carrying umds, there good, i mean its great qualitiy and there ALOT cheaper then they used to be. but im not really a movie buyer i only buy movies i absolutly love in blu-ray (lol i dont even have an hdtv)

Now that I have own PSP 3000 for almost a week, I can say something about this topic more.

There are something that doesn't make this device all multimedia such as

1. can't surf the web worthy crap

2. Can't play streaming video clips like wma

3. Can't play youtube which is one of my favorite place to surf

well basically, anything to do with internet it' sucks at it.

4. the skype works well but you have to exit skype to open other programs. It cannot be minimize

Game playing is good and the internet radio is nice. My usb cable should be here today so I can play around with the other options there. ;)
