Id recommend it, its slow going certianly on a grand scale and will last a long time - id say 30-35 hours on first play through going through the main story and not paying too much attention to side quests getting everything etc
Its quite difficult in places aswell, the storyline is quite good along with the setting too the combat is slightly different to most turn based RPG's so dont expect a Final Fantasy.
It's very repetive, and good portion of the game takes place in the menu, which I've been told take extra long to open on the PSP. (I have the orginal PS1 version of this game... I just bought my PSP copy a few days ago, but haven't tried it yet)
The game mainly focuses around short stories. Each recruit has their own little story, and that's really what the game is about. The main story doesn't really get going till near the end. And ending A is impossible to get without a guide. It's a long game and that alone, I feel, makes it worth the 40 or so bucks, for it. I think it would be a good game to play on the go, personally. (second to FFT). It seems that this game is becoming harder to find even on the PSP. Won't be surprise if the PSP version starts going for 60 bucks on Ebay, in a couple of more years....
I own most rpgs on psp and imo its one of the better one's....id say buy it :)
Also if you are still on the fence about it,tryRiviera: The Promised Land it's a great little rpg for psp.
I've got to say if you judge any RPG after one hour of play your being foolish. It's a great game though it pales compared to newer RPG's. If your relatively inexperience in RPG's then the simple mechanics won't bother you. If you are otherwise its up to your discretion really. I'd say its one of the better non FF RPG's
DeliriumGlo
ya i agree 1 hour tells you about 5% of what the game is really gonna be like.
and sorry i have no clue i just hate people like the second poster
I never said I didn't approve. I'm just stating what to expect. Personally, I liked the game. For a PS1 game it has some pretty impressive art work. Voice acting however, besides a few select characters, is lacking. Valkyrie's voice is good, though.
I just tried the PSP version last night. Except for some cutscenes the game is exactly the same. Prologue is exatly the same, right down to the voice acting. It's pretty much a direct port of the PS1 version. I recommend playing the game in Hard mode, because there are some impressive puzzle based dungeon layouts that are only available in hard mode. But that mayjust be me.
