It's not the cheapest service, but well worth the money, I think I'm paying $59.95 per month plus tax, and it costs $179 for installation unless you do a minimum one year contract, then installation is free.  They also give you a free wireless router, if you have any other computers in your house that have to have a wired connection, it's an additional $59 per computer for the installation, and $10 per month

No, it's much more expensive than Comcast Cable, you can get Comcast internet for $33 per month now if you get the Triple Play

It doesn't run off the same lines as Verizon DSL, they have to acutally rewire your house to install it, check out the website and it will tell you everything they need to do, installation takes about 4 1/2 hours

yeah, thats where they get you, if you sign a 1 year contract, installation is free but you pay $60 per month.  If you don't sign a contract, installation is $179 but you only pay $33 per month

What a ripoff. Get your own router and hide it when the guy comes to install. Refuse the free wireless router. After he leaves, use your router to get both computers online for no extra charge.

There is actually a FiOS box he has to install on the back of any computer that does not connect wirelessly.  Also, FiOS wireless internet will ONLY work with the wireless router Verizon provides, that is why the router is free, so if you refuse it, then you won't be able to get online wirelessly

it is not availiable to most people but my Cable provider is much faster. How big is CAC though?I cannot imagine it being that big since it has 4 maps.

Buying into Verizon propaganda, I see. The wireless router they provide, if I recall correctly, is a Linksys WRT54G with a Verizon FiOS sticker on it. That "box" they install is the modem, and you can reroute the connection from that to multiple computers.

Just don't let the Verizon techs see you doing this.

CAC is 989 mb.  it's 1080p so even though there are only 4 maps, the file is pretty large.

Nope, you recall incorrectly.  I've actually tried 4 other wireless routers myself and none of them work with the FiOS signal

It shouldn't matter. The FiOS signal is converted by that "box", and you should be able to install the router after that box:

---FiOS-----That Box----Router------Wired Computer A

                                    |-----------Wired Computer B

*------ Wireless Computer C

And etcetera.

That would make sense, but isn't how it works.  I have the service, and know several other people with the service as well.

It doesnt cost $10 per month if you have another computer using a wired connection. I have 2 computers using wired and 2 using WiFi. All I have to pay a month is $35.

That's because you are more than likely on a 1 year or more commitment, if you don't have a commitment then you have to pay extra

FIOS will work with any wireless router you just have to configure it. Unfortunately they still use PPPoE where you have to use a login name and password. it's not plug and play.

I have Cable service 30/5 then I paid $200.00 for 2 years of VOIP service. So now all I pay is 49.95 for internet and phoen is covered for 2 years. I have Verizon and their contracts.

Most recent wireless routers will work with Fios. The only ones that might not work are those old linksys routers that only support DSl.

I tried several routers today that did not work, all of them were brand new.  One said in the manual that it would be FiOS compatible by August via a Firmware upgrade.  The router Verizon left me when they installed has a problem with the power supply, it works, but not very stable b/c it keeps cutting off and on.  So I've been trying to find one that works, but haven't so far.

That's the one I have that says it will be FiOS compatible with a firmware upgrade by August.  I haven't seen any firmware upgrades on their website yet, I'll call customer service and see what they say then.

When the technician was installing it, he said they were hoping to have it available nation wide by early 2008, so you hopefully don't have too much longer to wait.

I don't know much about connections, since my cousin set everything up for me, but when I go down to the little internet thingy on my comp, it says 100 mb/s. Isn't that "blazing fast?"
