Hey, guys. Just curious. My PS3 is starting to act up, but nothing big and it hasn't happened in the last few days. I've got one of the first 80G big PS3s from like 2007. But I've got a few questions for you:

Age of your very first PS3:

Did your PS3 die of natural age causes:

If so, how long till it died:

Just a mini-poll. I'm curious to see the results.

Bought mine the same month it launched and it was the 60Gb with all the features, i sold it for a slim but i sold it to mate and he says its still working. I always made sure it was running cool by having a window open and not having it against a wall but i live in Scotland so keeping it cool is pretty easy and never had a single issue with mine the time i had it.

I had one of the 60 gigs that was backwards compatible with ps1 and ps2 games and that conked out on me last october or somewhere around there. I originally bought it used in 2007 so it lasted me about 3 years until the power supply on it completely died one day. I had to take it apart to get my game out of it. I ended up going and buying one of the 100gig slimline ones.

still have my original launch date 60 gb unit working, tough newer games seem to get the fans faster and faster, tough I have some money saved for an extra unit (if YLOD never happens, then that money goes towards to the future ps4) and do bi weekly backups

I've had my 60gb since launch. It still works as far as I know.

I've had my FF13 Slim model since Decemeber 2009. Works like a charm.

I bought my 60G PS3 when they announced that they were phasing out backward compatibility.

It YLoD'd after two years but at the time I could trade my YLoD PS3 for a new 80G non-b/c PS3 for £40 - as Sony wanted £120 to repair it I decided that backward compatibility wasn't worth £80 especially as I still have several PS2s.

I've had the 80GPS3 now for about a 1 1/2 years and it's still going ok but it's started to get louder when the disk spins fast.

I bought my 40GB PS3 June 12 2008, with a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4. The system stopped reading discs Jan 2010 but luckily I had extended warranty and got it fixed free of charge. Now I still have my ol PS3 since 2008, it works fine and since then I have upgraded the HDD to 320GB. I have no intention of buying another slimline version at this point in time.

Launch 60 gig is four years old, but the 500 gig HD I put in it's like 2-3 years old. It's still alive. :D

Ditto.

I replaced the thermal paste on mine about 4-5 months ago as a preventative measure, as well as cleaning out all the dust. Works great.

I still have my launch 60GB, but I replaced the thermal compund about a year ago and the fan barely has to run even while playing games like GOW3, Killzone 3, and Uncharted 2. It will be 4 years old for me in June :-). If it does die, then I will just play my "other console" which has been unplugged for almost 3 months lol until I can afford a new PS3.

I had an 80GB BC unit (one of the MGS4 bundles). I had it for approximately two years before the blu-ray drive died. And to be honest I didn't game on it much - I mostly watched movies.

My 80 GB i got in the Metal Gear Solid bundle is 2 years 10 months old, still works like a charm. Though, the reset button, the touch sensitive one next to the disk eject, the little panel it sits on is slightly UP, maybe like the glue on the very edge wore off. It still eject/resets perfectly, but it annoying having that little panel slightly popped up. Im thinkin about super glueing the very edge so it stays down, but its not that big of a problem.

I have my slim ps3 for about 1 year now and I never had any problems with it. Once in while it would freeze while I am browsing the internet but that is about it.

I also have my 80gb MGS4 fat and it's worked pretty well, occasionalfreeze with BFBC 2, but good otherwise. I changed the thermal compound in it about 8 months ago and then also built a cooling system for it since I have it enclosed in a cabinet. Don't think I'll be willing to live without a backwards compatible PS3 though, so this one better last forever...

Bought a 60GB in 2007. It died in November 2008. I sent it to Sony and they sent me back a refurbished PS3. That one lasted me until November 2009. I then bought a Slim and haven't had a problem since. I got my old PS3 fixed but now its just in a box wrapped in bubble wrap. Probably will sell it soon

My original 60 GB died after about two years or so (I bought it very close to launch). I kept it horizontal, but I really believe the fats have to be vertical for max. ventilation. My refurbished 60GB has had 0 problems.

Bought my first PS3 60GB in spring of 2007. 60GB Launch Model. It died in December 2010. Lifetime: 3.5 Years

I then bought a 160GB PS3 Slim in December 2010. It died at the beginning of the Month. Lifetime: 3.5 Months

Needless to say, I prefer the PS3 Phat

My first PS3 was a European launch console (March 23rd 2007!) but it died sometime in late November of last year. I now have a Slimline version that I've had since early Jan.

My first PS3 lasted for years until the blu-ray died. I bought an 80 gig the next day and was going to toss the original but my neighbour asked if he could take it off my hands. He replaced the BR and he's had it for 2+ years without a problem.

Mine dies last summer, the blu ray stopped reading any disk and i didn't notice anything different before it died. No freezing or anything like that. Just one day i turned it on and it would not read MW2
