You need some Sweet Ass to brighten up your day (even if it's where the sun don't shine!)
But aside from that, have you had any contact with the eBay seller? If anything sometimes they may be helpful, might help you send to sony jp or something. How long have you had the system? Or did the seller cheat you? If he did best you can do is complain to the seller and report if he ignores you. You'd still be screwed but might as well. Too bad though, how many discs have you tried that haven't worked?
One question...Did you have it horizontal or vertical?DaddyLongCaddy
You should have at least got it from Play-asia they would have had some kind of warranty,
thats the trouble with buying from ebay though,
also with the sales at the moment there are 40gb deals getting as low as $600

I think what scott was trying to say about selling it on eBay was not to rip someone off. You could just say that its broken, detail the problem, say you don't know what's wrong and why you can't get it fixed. There are people out there who will buy broken stuff like that, either cause they themselves can fix it and so get a ps3 cheap, or they can mess around with it knowing it's already broken and whatever else their reasons are. I believe you can get quite a bit back like this actually. Not near a full amount, but decent enough i would say.
Or you could just try hounding sony au to try and fix it. Say you got it on travel, before it came out in australia and such. Trying to show support to sony. Say it's still their brand product, or say you'll get an xbox instead(and convince your friends to get an xbox as well) or something :P. Hey, worth a try i would assume.
The biggest thing i would ever buy on any website would probably be a game off ebay.HoodCheese
Sorry to hear that man, I would file a complaint with Paypal. He might of take all the money from his account, but still file one with paypal. They are pretty good about trying to get the funds back, if worse came to worse, swap it for another system. They might check the box and find out what's wrong, only do it if you got the black version.
You got the black one right or did you buy the bright white one?

Ya I probably should have been a little more specific about the Ebay comment. Definitely wasn'ttalking about ripping anyone off. There are plenty of "broken" PS3s on sale on ebay that still sell for a decent amount of loot. Better to just cut some of your losses now and see what you can get back from it then buy a whole new one. I wouldn't be worried about Ebay either as thats where I got my PS3 and it works great :)
Also, like Sphire said you should try and bug the AU Sony first before you sell it. Come up with anything you can think of and tell them you will never support another product again, you buy games every month, your very upset, yada yada yada...and they might actually do it for you anyways.

DUDE, how could you buy one from Japan?! What a mistake!!! This is why i never buy electronic gadgets on internet, or from another country. It is best to buy it your self in some shop and if something happeneds you know where to go.
Sad to hear it but you made big mistake, try to find some service(if there is such) in Australia
Buying on ebay is a gamble, a BIG gamble that is why I only buy small things on ebay, like games. So if I were you I would post that broken PS3 back on ebay in the Japanese section, say what's wrong with it and tell them that they might be able to ship it back to Sony for a new one.
That should get you back some cash to get a new one in your own home town.
so, if you buy a system off of EBAY you have no warranty on the system? I bought a brand new, unopened, sealed 80gb off of ebay and thus my concern. I've read before on this site that as long as the unit is still within the one year period that Sony honors their warranty, regardless...but that may not be true I guess. Anyone know?GratefulRed
did they give you the receipt with the console? if not then you are screwed too
if they did and it is the same region console that you live in then you are fine and have nothing to worry about

Umm you could try ripping someone off. You could call the Sony Japan or something. That's all I can think of.G-Legend
You could always buy a new one, put the broke one in the box, and return it....

I've heard people do it Wal-Mart all the time. They don't check. Most stores in the US just send the product back to the manufacturer and let them deal with it.
