why in order to play VF5 in 1080i i need to uncheck 720p in the XMB display settings why if it can go that high it dont just go

I know I have to uncheck both to play in1080p.

i believe the game rendered in 720p, so it probably doesn't look any better. they did this probably for people who have sets that only display 480/1080i/p. if your set is 720p native, i'd recommend playing in 720p instead of 1080i.

Exactly, upscaled to 1080p and then interlaced will just make the game look worse.

no it doesnt, it just depends on the tv. 1080i looks better on my tv. 720p may look better on yours. it just depends on the tv. try them all and see which one you prefer.
