Anyone know if there's a possibility that online capability might be added to Virtua Tennis later down the line? What's the reasoning behind the 360 online availability, but no PS3 online? I'm assuming it's some kind of licensing deal but, just wondering...not sure that many care, but I want this game, but no online has been keeping me from making the purchase...

Sure they didn't have enough time. Update to add online? That will never happen. The fact is not every developer will shell out the time and money to implement online play.

Don't think online will be added for the VT3, but one can always hope. The reason is that 2 different developer teams did the game for each console and according to sega, sony came with the tools for online to late into the developing cycle of the game.

Actually, it wouldn't be for this one game...I've been eyeing Gears of War, Halo 3, etc...but yeah, it is kind of silly to buy a system for a few games, but...who knows, I might eventually give in :(...don't get me wrong though, I like my PS3 a ton.

Yeah right, so then Motorstorm and Resistance shouldn't have online either. Not Sony's fault, Programmers's fault. Bad bad programmers.

There is nothing wrong in owning all systems if you afford it and the reason you systems are for games (even if they are few).

You guys do know that developers have to pay to run the servers to keep their games online.  Motorstorm and Resistance are in house games for Sony so they are run off of their servers.  Sega simply didn't want to pay the money it cost to have VT3 be online for the PS3, MS offers dedicated servers...hence every single game has an online element.

R:fom is developed by Insomniac that is a 3rd party developer with very good relations to Sony.

You probably don't understand. Remember online is left to developers so if they don't want to commit the resources they don't have to. They must host their own servers etc and sadly not all developers will do that. That is exactly why there is no online for the PS3 version. I doubt Sega has the experience in the area of online gaming.

Well thanks everyone for the info...I haven't been into gaming in awhile and just jumped back in with the Wii/PS3 storm this past holiday season...so I'm still new to the politics etc to all the systems/developers...It's interesting to say the least.

I guess comprehension is not your strongest area. Yes if Sony provided them with servers and online tools i am sure it would have been online. End of story.

On the PS3 the publisher/developer has to buy the server and pay for the hosting for the game. Then they have to support it, etc. Sega probably didn't see any value in supporting the PS3 online cause of its small user base and the cost to do it. This is also why you don't have integrated friends lists on the PS3.....cause everyone who makes a game hosts it themselves. It's what makes PS3 online a mixed bag. On the 360 - XBOX Live - they only need to send it to Microsoft. It all operates in one central place, friends lists, achievements, etc. Your XBL fees pay for hosting and support, etc. You get what you pay for.

I guess I'd be willing to pay for online if that means that PS3 will have an increased # of games available online....like you say, you get what you pay for.

While that's true, Sony owns the rights to Resistance.
