How good is the voice chat system on this platform? Mostly can I chat with friends while I am playing single player games and how well and how much is it used in online games? I wanted to pick up a PS3 and wanted to know how well it works on the system.

I know this thread is a few months old, I just didn't want to start a new one....

I just got a blue tooth headset (motorola HS850 I think) yesterday for me and Voice Chat is really good.

But the one thing that I don't like about the PS3 chat that I'm hoping they will change soon or correctwhen HOME is released is the ability to chat regardless of what your doing... similar to 360 private chat.... where you can be playing different games, downloading, browsing playstation store, installing games, etc.... all while maintinating a private chat connection.

I was chatting with my nephew (he just gothis PS3 yesterday for his bday and also the same headset I have) in private chat at the PS3 dashboard (or whatever its called) but when if I wanted to start a download or install a downloaded gameor switch to playing a game or whatever, our chat session would be closed. Where on the 360 you can switch to different games download, watch a movie, etc all while staying in chat and talking to your buddy. Not to compare with the 360 or say the 360 is better, just would like to do the same thing with the PS3.

Other than that, the ps3 chat is awesome in game chat or if your chatting from the dashboard and not wanting to do anything else.
