http://share.blog.us.playstation.com/ideas/2010/03/26/extend-ps3-warranty-to-3-years-instead-of-1/ If someone knows how to link it here on gamespot feel free. Don't know how.

Let's give this a shot guys. I' have had a PS3 blu ray drive die on me before and my slim seems to run even hotter than the big ones. Always good to have that extra insurance:D

They just need to use optical glass for the Blu-Ray lenses instead of plastic, it only cost ~$1.50 more and would reduce laser burn out to almost nothing.

You might be reading it wrong. I was told the bottom is the total number of votes. You would be surprised to see some of the Sony-Fanboys vote against it. Heck I was getting attacked on the forum over there on us.playstation.com over it.

The warranty should've been extended long ago, but it's not gonna happen because Sony has the fans and gaming press fooled that the fail rate is below 1%. (lol) The reason nobody experienced PS3 failures sooner is because they've been sitting on the shelf not being played collecting dust. Games have recently just started to come out for the PS3 that make it worth playing and people have been putting REAL gaming time on the PS3, hence the sudden rise in hardware failures from the Blu-ray drive to the YLOD. The PS3 is beginning to show that it's just as faulty as a certain competitors console. >> At least they chose to give their users 3 years and fess up.

This is just a rumor at best. My 60 gig system has been turned off for maybe a total of a few days over the past three years. It's on right now and has never had a single hardware problem. There have been some game or other media software that had small issues during this time.

I do agree that an extended free warranty can only help.
