Nothing is known as to what will happen to snake at the end, He is dying in the game due to fox die accelerating his age etc whether a cure is found only Mr Kojima and the rest of the team know that.Â

That's part of the reason, Fox die was used to help speed up the cloning process but it also speeds up age i guess that's the side effect. Â

EDIT: Big Boss is not in MGS4! His corpse is burnt to a crisp, he's over 85 years old! Old Snake is no more than 65, that you can tell just by looking at him.Â
its not SOLID snake! Its some other snake! If you go by the dates in all three games, u know that MGS 4 had to be another snake, not Solid Snake. It was naked snake! Solid Snake was in mgs 1 &2! MGS 4 is in the near future. MGS3 was during the cold war in the 60's!

Naked Snake = Big Boss and he died in MG2
Solid Snake is in MGS and MGS2 and is in MGS4 and so are a lot of characters fromt he MGS/MGS2 saga eg. Naomi, Otacon, Colonel Cambell, Meryll, Liquid Snake/OcelotÂ
either way i think MGS needs an end already, there is not much to add to the story and how many metal gear versions are there? maybe rainden becomes a man and continues snake's legacy but that is unlikely
