I heard that ps2 games will burn in for plasmas. Also is gaming for ps3 in plasma good or will that burn in also. I saw the Hitachi plasma 42" for 1249 and that is a good deal. I know lcd's are better for gaming but too expensive. The good ones. Will plasmas work with ps2 games on the ps3 that is all I need to know. thanks.

after reading that, i wouldn't dare risk a $1200 TV on gaming.  you don't need a 42" screen for gaming.  just get a computer LCD monitor with an HDMI input on it, that's what i did.

It depends. You have to ask the manufacturer if a feature called pixel shift is in it. Pixel shifting is a technique used by newer plasmas to end burn in. If that tv has pixel shift, then youu are a-ok. And, I do prefer lcd over plasma, but plasmas are cheaper, bigger, and will give the best visual quality out there.

Plasmas are getting better about burn in, but it still happens. It can happen quite easily when watching a news channel with the scrolling bar at the bottom or the clock to the left. In games the HUD is the thing you need to look out for. Any game on any system with a HUD poses a threat. Just don't play it at once for a long period of time. Also, make sure the HDTV you are looking at has a refresh button that will white out the screen. That usually takes care of any minor burn in.

Plasmas are the worst for all types of TVs for burn in so you want to be careful. I suggest enjoying it but try not to play the same game with the same images on the TV for hours on end day after day. Also it helps if your contrast level isn't jacked up to high.

My Wife would turn on disney channel for hours a day and just leave it on for the kids, now I have faint little mickey mouse ears burned into the corner. :(

Ignore the the posts above mines they have no idea what their talking about. The risk of burn-in is very small even with older plasma and there pretty much no risk at all if you get any plasma from the last 3years.

I play on a 50'' plasma, and get nothing even close to burn-in.  Just don't leave a single image on the screen for a while ya know. Like if you need to pause the game and go do something for 10mins, turn off the tv.

And the guy who said you don't need a 42'' tv for gaming is simply jealous that he can't afford one. lol

I play ps3, xbox360 and Wii, and tons of movies on my 37 in Panasonic plasma pretty much every day for over a year now. No burn in.

Make one lil comment jokingly and someone's always there to throw it in your face. lol

Anyhow, what you heard is wrong.  I've even played sports games that have the score bar across the entire bottom for as long as 4 hours straight and still gotten no burn in.  This may not be true of older plasma tvs but definitely not the newer ones. But hey, you're entitled to believe what you want.

LCDs are too expensive? I saw a 42" LCD at Costco the other day for well under a $1000.

I recommend you seriously consider DLP.  Slightly cheaper, burn-in is practically nonexistent, and they lack the "screen door" effect that many plasma and LCD displays have been found to have.

Nah. If you want an RP TV go with LCoS instead. It's a much better technology than DLP, and IMO, it looks better.

i have a pioneer pdp-5070 plasma tv.  i use it or gaming as well as a home theater.  i just want to say the picture produce by a plasma is still the best compare to lcd, although the gap have been narrow with the lastest lcd model from various manufacturers,  but there is still some noticable differents.  as for all the issue about burn in and picture retention.  they are more prone to happen on older model.  the newer ones are free from all this problems.  you could get your tv calibrated to prevent burn in also. site like avsforum.com offer a lot of calibration tips.

LCD isn't THAT expensive...I got a 55" sony 3 panel for under $1300...Oblivion on 55" of glorious hi def canvas is too good to pass up!!  An aside, I think plasma does have a slight edge visually, but I didn't think it was a pronounced difference at all.
