Sony sure is tricky. Giving all of psn a free month long ps+ subscription and not telling them it auto renews using their credit card number. Luckily Im here for you 8)

I think it'd be awesome of sony if they didn't make you put in a credit card for the trial if you don't already have one in. I feel kinda odd being asked to put in a credit card for a free trial that is offered b/c they got hacked. But yeah, def make sure you turn that auto-sucker off. I think it'd be great if their subscriptions went down b/c of it. I hate auto renew and think they should offer multi-year deals and just use reminders for the rest instead of taking money without specifically being told it's alright.

After the last month, if you still have credit card information on the account then you're just asking for it. But yes PSN+ does auto renew unless you turn the option off.

I kind of figured that would be the case, butit doesn't really matter because I removed my credit card from my psn account as soon as I was able and will never use anything but psn cards to make purchases from now on.

You'd have to be nuts to give Sony your credit card information now after the security breach.

i'm still using my debit cards, because who's credit card information was stolen because of this? do you know anyones? or heard of anybody getting their psn credit card information charged on their?. Hackers may have gotten my information, email, adderess and trivial things but they didn't get CC info's. So i'm still using my debit card to make my purchases, its all gravy.

this is the same for all PS3 subscriptions.

Unless it's something you want on, auto-renewals should be turned off the second you subscribe to anything.

To be fair, all new PS+ users have the function turned on when you subscribe, it'll use saved CC info (no you are NOT asked for it when you sub) or money left in your wallet.

I wouldn't say it's a trap, it's all there to be read about and you're warned about it when you subscribe.

Seing as the sub goes active when the welcome back stuff does, I would assume the warning would still be there when you first use PS+

At least you can easily turn it off. have you ever tried removing auto-recycle or CC info from the other console? It's a nightmare

same here,

My CC info stays put. Anyone with a credit card should have ID Theft protection anyway. It's just comman sense. the petrol station is more likely to rip on your card than a hacker with your email address

Exactly, I've never actually seen anyone saying they've been charged for things they never even bought. I think people are just making it out to be worse than it actually was. I've not had any problems and neither has anyone else that I've heard of.

If i have to enter my credit card details to sign up for PS+ then i wont be bothering. The point of having those PSN preloaded cards is for people who don't want to put their CC info in.. it would be kinda silly for them to then say "oh but we want your info, even though we wont be using it" especially after they were just hacked and peoples info was stolen.

Appreciate the heads up:) "BUT" for those of us who read the fine print, it's not a problem. Sony isn't being "TRICKY"...some people just need to learn to pay more attention to detail when it comes to things like that..:D

if they ask for my credit card info, i will definitely NOT be taking advantage of the PS+ "service". not because of the auto-renewal, but because i don't trust their security yet.

The fact that it's in the fine print is what makes people think they're being tricky. In fact, if they weren't being tricky to any degree then it would be set to off and they'd ask you if you want it before turning it on. You mean that putting this information inside a wall of text isn't in the least bit tricky to get people to get another year w/o them deciding? That's the whole point of it.

How exactly is Sony being tricky? You sign up for anything online, theres always terms and conditions everyone should read. Its not Sony's fault for lack of consumer awareness.

With that said, I love the Admiral Ackbar reference ;)

Exactly, almost every single subscription based service is automatically set to auto renew. It's just how it's done.

That's how most services are. The saying "read the fine print" didn't come into existence because someone was bored and just wanted to come up with random sayings. I've dealt with contracts before and honestly, I have no pity for people who don't read the terms and conditions all the way through.

Theres an auto renew option under acct managment you disable. You dont need the CC on file as if you have the money in your acct it may even just take that to use. Its also not really in small print it in bright yellow decent sized print. yes it is tricky and ive been sayin the same thing since they announced it

i imagine that if you sign up for the free month of ps+ and then buy a game at a discounted price, lets say under siege, and then cancel your ps+, how is under siege treated? I know that the games given for free are nullified once the ps+ used to get them for free is deactivated...

on a side note at least you can turn off auto renews and take your card off PSN from your console whenever you want unlike XBL where you have to phone them up

You'd have to be nuts to give Sony your credit card information now after the security breach.

Chris_Williams

i'm still using my debit cards, because who's credit card information was stolen because of this? do you know anyones? or heard of anybody getting their psn credit card information charged on their?. Hackers may have gotten my information, email, adderess and trivial things but they didn't get CC info's. So i'm still using my debit card to make my purchases, its all gravy.

I am more concerned about having my personal information stolen than my CC number. If my number is stolen worse case is I dispute the charges with my credit card company. But if you have my full name, email address, password, home address, telephone numbers, etc., that's enough to start the process of ID theft. Keep in mind that this is probably the safest the PSN will be considering that the breach just happened and I would like to think that Sony has gone above and beyond to keep our information secure now.

Yeah i had a feeling of this, also they are offering inFamous to try and advertise and sell inFamous 2 a bit more, a billion dollar corporation aint going to let anything slip past as a way to earn a bit more cash, which is ok i guess since we do get free 30 days of PS+ and we do get 2 free games with relatively no catch.

Anything that you pay for, discounted or not, is yours forever. OT: I love how people are mad at Sony for fully disclosing how the subscription works. Another good example of why you should read people.

all of this is pointless. How do you know that they will not remove that option or turn it off by default for the welcome back package? All of this is speculation. Why not wait until it is actually out before declaring from the rooftops things you are not 100% sure of. For all we know they could just flag everyone from the back end as a PS+ member or just change the items available to be allow for everyone for 30 days which would have nothing to do with CC info

From the PS Blog:

"In addition, we're giving access to our premium subscription service,PlayStation Plus, which includes games, huge discounts, exciting exclusives and added features like online storage and automatic downloads, to all PSN members for 30 days at no charge, requiring no long term commitment. As with the games above, go to the PlayStation Store and under the 'Welcome Back' section, select 'PlayStation Plus: 30 Days Free', and you'll be given access to all of the benefits of PlayStation Plus. Note that this will not auto-renew and simply expires 30 days after activation."

so there's no reason not to take advantage of it.

Of course it's a trap. Nothing is really free.
