Well there is nothing really specific to the psp that you have to look out for (aside from the small plug), but there are a couple of good brands. It just depends how much you want to spend. I would recommend that you look around for some earbuds. Not only are they small but if they are the in ear type they will also naturally perform some noise cancelling. Most of the buds that you can pick up at Walmart aren't very good... although their stock may have changed since I last looked.

If you want to get a pretty decent pair, but not spend too much, I found the Rhythm Lanyard headphones to be pretty good. If you are willing to spend more, but still don't want to spend too much the Shure E2C-Ns are even better. And of course you can go up from their.

As for brands, Shure and Sennheiser seem to be consistently good.

Shure? Yikes that's a lot of bread for a game unit... I have a couple of other ideas that sound great and you can save some money.

For over-the-ear style headphones with actual noise cancelling get Phillips ($65 U.S.)... their "Extended Bass" ear buds are nice too ($36 U.S.). The Shure and Sennheiser IEMs (in-ear monitors) are really nice, but so expensive I wouldn't want to take a chance and lose them.

Try these two Phillips models, you can find them at Best Buy. This advice brought to you by 21 years as a professional sound engineer. I'm hyper-critical of comfort vs. sound quality and I loved the over-ear Phillips noise cancelling headphones for the NC effect, portability, and comfort. The Extended Bass buds (purple in color) are comfy once you figure out which plugs to use and they are better for a pocket or a backpack, the seal is nice against outside noise, and they have a warm midrange and a nicely faked low end to them (you could no more create real bass with a set of ear buds than you could fit a thirty foot pole between the drivers - it's not REAL bass you hear but a psycho-acoustic trick when listening to headphones - just the facts, ma'am).

Next Caller.
