I am thinking of buying a PS3, and see a refurbished one on sale for $199 (40GB fat). Will I be losing out on anything if I buy this instead of the Slim?
I don't think most of the PS3 40GB FATs can play PS2 games as they only have 2 USB ports. Only the FAT PS3s that have 4 USB ports can play PS2 games. Those include the,
-PS3 (fat) 20GB -PS3 (fat) 60GB -PS3 (fat) 80GB
A new PS3 slim is less likely to break down than a 40GB FAT which is prone to yellow light of death at some point, thats the only difference I can think of.
Slim wont play PS2 games, only those from PS Store. But Slim runs cooler = will last longer, quieter, less power consumption etc. So yeah, go with Slim :)
the fat 40gb and the slims areactuallysame. If I were you I would just get a slim, cuz $200 for a old fat 40gb is a bit of a joke. They have fan issues too, not over heating issues, but loud fan issues.
You could just wait for the new slims that are gonna be announce soon, and Im sure they are going to lower the price on the current slims.
The ones that get YLOD are the 60gb and the 4 usb 80gb model, the 40gb is in the safe zone but not completely.
