I know this is a weird question, but no review or overview really mentions the quality of these. I've read countless time that the console itself has superb build quality, but from the looks of it, the shoulder buttons look like the ones on the old PSP's - flimsy and cheapy. I only ask as the old PSP felt really cheap and unsatisfying because of them.

Also, are the analog sticks suitable for shooters, in your opinion? Obviously they will not be comparable to the ps3 analog sticks, but I was wondering if you could see a real good first person shooter working on the vita, in regards to the analogs and shoulder buttons. I can't ever see a mainstream title like Call of Duty really kicking off on it, as I can't imagine the analogs and shoulder buttons ever giving the same feeling to that of a real controller.

For extra points, has anybody found out when psone classics will become available for the vita? Or is it still just "Later this year"?

Thanks in advance, guys.

The shoulder buttons are very much like the PSP's triggers - they slide around a little where they're mounted and have a slightly squishy throw to them (enough that they almost feel analog like the Dual Shock's face buttons, but I doubt they are). I don't think the analog sticks are spectacular for shooters, either - they're far superior to the awful analog nub on the original PSP but they're so small and have such a limited amount of travel that I find my hands getting fatigued whenever I use them heavily in a game (such as Super Stardust). It's easily the best portable option for shooters, of course, but it's nowhere near what you would find on a typical controller. And yeah, still later this year for PS Classics, which is sad as I'm looking forward to being able to use both analog sticks for games that support them. No idea what they're doing that's taking so long.

I haven't touched a PSP (I had a launch PSP that I sold) in quite a long time, but the triggers on the Vita seem pretty much the same.

Like DJ_Lae said, the analogue sticks are better than the PSP's nub thing, but the amount of travel space is pretty small. This makes it difficult for small adjustments in aiming and stuff. Personally I think the circle pad on the 3DS is a bit better, but unfortunately the 3DS only has one stick.

Ah, right - cheers guys. I'm a little dissapointed that sony didn't attempt to make the buttons feel a little more solid and comfortable, but I guess it's only a small complaint. Not really a make or break, I'll still get one when some more promising titles are out.

As for the analog sticks, I expected as much. I used to play FPS's on my PS3 alot and if they were good on the vita I probably could have gotten back into them a little, but it's fair enough, portables don't really have the potential.

Personally I think the circle pad on the 3DS is a bit better, but unfortunately the 3DS only has one stick.

I 100% agree, it feels really good. As for only having one, don't they have a second attachable one?

And psone? Damn, weirdly psone compatibily is a real make or break for me here. It was pretty much the only use my old PSP got in the end, and I loved it. I know I certainly wont be picking a vita up until that is integrated and there are a few games on the go.

Cheers!

The shoulder buttons are of solid construction they are quite reponsive. I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the build. Sony has done a great job hardware wise with the PSvita. Clearish gray plastic looked like that it would not be comfortable for long. But surprisingly are really good.

to put it simply, they have less of a "click" than the PSP's buttons.but it feels as though they COULD be pressure sensitive capable with later games....

They aren't analog. They never will be pressure sensitive, either. My thoughts: They're mushier than the PSP's but larger and rounder. So feedback is inferior, but the feel is better. Overall, they about as good as the PSP's shoulder buttons.

I still have my psp and the Vita's shoulder buttons feel so much better. There nice and curved and fit in my hand perfectly. At the time the psp shoulder buttons seemed fine, but now they just feel squared

What I liked about the PSP's triggers, though, is that they were clicky. The Vita's, on the other hand, feel a little soft and mushy. It's sometimes hard to tell whether you have the triggers pressed or not. It's something I easily forgot about in most games, though. The Vita's triggers are perfectly acceptable, even if I prefer the PSP's clickiness.

thank you. The circle pad is more accurate than the psvita analog stick
