Hello everybody, I just bought a PS3 last weekend (only had a 360 before that), and I am just wondering what games you all consider hidden gems for the PS3. To me there is nothing better than playing an over looked game by reviewers and the public, only to discover it is something great.

Thanks in advanced.

Alone in the Dark: Inferno. The game was universally panned on other platforms, but the PS3 version is way better. It has better camera controls, better movement controls, better vehicle handling, an improved inventory management system, a better sense of what you're actually supposed to be doing, new action sequences, new story sequences, and more even difficulty. It's really like playing two entirely different games when you compare the 360/PC/Wii/PS2 version to the PS3 version. Another GREAT game is Binary Domain. I wrote a review of it here for those interested. Aside from Vanquish I consider it the best third person shooter of this console generation by a wide margin.

I mostly came to say this: it's funny how Valkyria Chronicle gets mentioned (don't worry it will) in every thread like this, it kinda makes you think it's not as hidden as those might think!

Anyway, I never completed this following game but from what I understood, most of the hate had to the horrible controls but there was a patch allowing the regular controller which I think fixed most of the stated issues with this game: Lair!

Valkyria Chronicles was critically acclaimed and sold well enough to get two sequels. It may not be mainstream but it definitely has a following, and most informed gamers are aware of it.

Definitely NIER, the game's a complete masterpiece in terms of story and characters but I guess a lot of people overlooked it due to it having bad graphics and such. Other than that, there's also Yakuza 4 which is definitely a must have, if you ask me. Its got a ton of content (and "ton" is an understatement here) that can easily keep you busy for over a hundred hours and is one of the most fun games out there, its in Japanese with English subtitles though.

Pikminmaniac
It had a national TV ad campaign, it got massive critical acclaim, it sold over a million copies across PS3/360/Wii (PC/Vita sales are unknown and the 3DS version isn't out yet), and it's part of a series that dates back to 1995. That's pretty much the opposite of "hidden". It's even getting a sequel this year.

People overreacted to less than amazing launch month sales, but similar mascot platformers like Sonic, Mario, and Kirby all exhibit long selling legs and Rayman is no different. Ubisoft said that they had already made a profit on the game as if February 15: "We believe Rayman: Origins, which is rated 89 percent on Metacritic with enthusiast reviews and is already profitable, has the capacity to become a long-term seller for the company."-Ubisoft Chief Financial Officer Alain Martinez http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/15/rayman-origins-is-actually-profitable-for-ubisoft/ Since then the console versions have had two more months to sell, plus the Vita and PC versions were released. And they still have a 3DS launch on the horizon before the sequel hits.

Nier was awesome. I'm not usually a fan of JRPG's but I really loved that one.

Dark Void. The jetpack controls took a small amount of getting used to, but once you did it was really fun.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge was a favorite of mine. Everybody else seemed to hate it though.

The Saboteur - super fun game

Enslaved: Odyssey To The West - another favorite.

Red Faction: Guerrilla - great game.

3D Dot Game Heroes is an absolute fave of mine mainly due to the retro feel and look of the game. Another would be Bioshock as mentioned above. El Shaddai is weird but also very addicting for some reason. It surprised me!.

Blokus - great PSN puzzle game, based on a board game and great fun when you can't con anyone into playing the board game with you.

Blur - Mario Kart for adults - excellent online experience.

Deadliest Warrior Legends - it's a PSN download but there's now a stand alone disc with both games - best fighting game on the PS3 in my opinion.

Stardrone - PSN puzzle game that's a combination of pinball, Monkey Ball and a space shooter, worth a look.

3 on 3 NHL Arcade - great pick up and play PSN hockey game, like NBA Jam but with hockey, in many ways more fun than EA's regular NHL games.

The Fight - Lights Out - awesome fighting game for the PS3 Move, you'll need two Move controllers and be prepared to get tired.

At first the reviews turned me off of it, but I just played the Asura's Wrath demo and now I really want it.

I've recently started tracking these gems and now I'm getting worried that I'll miss out on some of these as stocks become low and productions cease. I have to actually put aside the first party games and big blockbusters to afford the Niers, brutal legends and vanquishes out there.

By the way, here is the list that I've been putting together:

shadows of the damned
yakuza 3 & 4
No More Heroes
alice: madness returns

vanquish
mirrors edge
brutal legend
warhammer 40k space marine
asura's wrath
el shaddai
The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
nier
saboteur
red faction
resonance of fate

wet
enslaved
majin

are there any that don't deserve to be on this list? and any extra special one's that I'm missing out?

But Demon's Souls was critically acclaimed already. Anyway I thought Darksiders and Castlevania are overlooked.

I can't find an official source (Ubisoft/NPD/Chart Track/Media Create) but VgChartz (I know, I know) has the game at 1.38 million for PS3/360/PC/Vita retail alone. Add digital sales and I'm sure it's comfortably over a million, even if VgChartz has been overtracking the game as they usually do.

Only Hidden one I can think of is on the Xbox too. Gameplay is kinda bad, but I was impressed with the RPG elements and the way the story tied together. Alpha Protocol.

Umm.... PS3 looked over, exclusives?
Way of the Samurai 3, I guess.
Yakuza 3 and 4? (they're affordable, anyways.)

...As for Neir, it's on the Xbox, too. And cheaper on the Xbox, it seems.

As for hidden gems, I guess you mean games that are not the huge hyped up big sellers?

Well,

3D Dot Game Heroes. I like to say its the best Zelda game since A Link to the Past. :)

Star Ocean.... yes its multiplat, but the PS3 version is vastly superiour and easily one of the best JRPG's this gen.

Wizardry : Labyrinth of Lost Souls. Hundreds of hours of gameplay. $15 on PSN. Great game.

Demon's Souls... not sure if that counts. But if you never had a PS3 before then its a crime not to own that game.

There is a lot of really awesome stuff on PSN. Look in the PSOne and PS2 Classics. Ring of Red comes to mind right off the bat.

Anyway, enjoy your new system.

I had good time with Folklore and wrote comprehensive review on it. Valkyria Chronicles is great third person real time turned based strategy game.

Heavenly Sword is short but very fun action game (think god of war), Yakuza 3, 4 needs more love from western gamers - great story games.

3d Dot Game Heroes was pretty interesting. I think I just got sick of it from trying to get Plat on it. Which I did, but it kind of ruined the game for me I think. It was fun until I started trying to get trophies.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was pretty good I think. That one was also a huge pain in the but to get a Platinum Trophy on. It was fun though, good story and combat system, it was interesting all around.

I also have Valkyria Chronicles because I've heard how good it was, I haven't beaten it yet but it's interesting.

Mine is the Yakuza games like Yakuza 3, 4, and Dead Souls. I really wish these games were more popular here in the US, all I can say is that Americans have crap taste in video games.
