I prefer real-time. I once hated JRPGs until a real-time battle system of the so called genre came out. Now, JRPG is one of my favorite genre, but real-time battle system only.

I don't like turn-based because I find it stupid if you can't move around, jump, dodge/evade attacks, and block during battles because its like letting yourself get hit. Hehe.

Any real-time JRPG coming out for PS3?

Only turn-based are boring. Real-time RPGs are like action-adventure with RPG elements.

My preference is real-time but I don't mind turn-based JRPG's, I enjoy both. WKS and FFv13 are both real-time JRPG's, I am sure that White knight will be out in the west by Q2 09 since its out in Japan in December of this year, vs13 probably wont be out till Q2 2010

It's not like that in real-time RPGs.

Same here. I don't like that but most real-time RPGs don't require leveling up. You could beat the game by going through the story.

Turn based RPG's can be very good as they are more strategic like chess. Instead of being button mashing hack and slash...

Don't have a favorite... both systems have their prons and cons. Turn based feels more strategic and real-action is more dinamic, so basically depends on the mood I am.

theres things i like and hate about both. most of the time i like trun based with a order to them. like you can see who has the next turn and whos after that. kinda liek how ffx was. but i also like turn based ones where theres commands and stuff and you have a certin amount of attacks in a turn like in valkyrie profile: lenneth

Japan sucks at making real time RPG, they should keep making turn-based, after i played and finished FFXII i know that the combat systems was so boring compare to FFX, it makes a good nap game just watching character doing a same slash by itself ZZZZZZZZzzzzzz.

I seem to be in the minority here as I very much prefer turn-based. In fact, I am sad to see they have become a dying breed.

Games like Final Fantasy 12 and Rogue Galaxy seemed to turn what used to be a fantastic tactical RPG into a button masher. Im not saying it can't be done well however, look at Diablo 2 and WOW. Both are great, setting a good tempo with great item collecting.

As an old-school RPG player (all the way back to the original D&D) I really would like to see some new turned based JRPG's.

The main difference with turn based and real time, is that you can control multiple characters with turn-based combat, where as you can only control 1 character with real time. I like both forms of combat, but if real time combat is done well, with intelligent AI partners I probably would prefer that.

Turn Based.

it's more strategic to have to consider weaknesses and numbers than to just run up and hit a button. don't get me wrong, I love games like Zelda, but that's a different genre.

that said, Secret of Mana was pretty good.

I dont mind playing real time rpg, but I prefer turn based system, might be because ive been playing turn based rpg all my life (final fantasy VIII, the best rpg ever in my opinion is turn based), also i found turn based system to be more about thinking, like a chess game, you have to predict enemy moves. besides sometimes real time rpg tend to became just dull hack and slash games...(but I loved oblivion)

I as well, soo many games these days are just based on explosions and headshot.. not nearly enough on story and character development.

I think that both battle systems have their privelages. In case of turn-based RPG you have more time to think over your next move, so there is a sort of strategic elements, although the gamplay may become annoying when you have to wait for your move to make. Real time system has lots more action in it, you have to think fast and without hesitation. Concerning all this, i prefer turn-based system.

turn based RPGs : I like having time to choose the action I choose, it has more impact on what's happening rather than timing well or button mashing, and having real control on the 3/4/6 characters makes them unique

only action/RPG I really liked was X-men legends, as you can switch to any character

played some MMORPGs and had fun sometimes but got bored eventually, as story is very weak and combat is repetitive

I like the battle system from the Tales series but turn-based is still excellent, looove dragon quest viii. Too bad developers look to be moving away from the old turn-based ways.

I agree! Especialy with the chess analogy! I wouldn't mine playing both though, but my favorite is definitely the turn-based. I also enjoy the SRPGs which are even more strategic.
